Hopefully Selig will be better when the tour moves to San Francisco on Sept. 23. I would assume 4 weeks of vocal rest should be enough for Selig to heal up.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I think it's great that Thomas was ready and willing to step in. The producers should be happy. I hope Selig rests up and is able to resume the role. I think the cast looks very strong.

I wonder if Kyle has bowed out of the tour? Mathew will also do the Sanfrancisco engagement. Hmmm I believe there is more to the story.

I hope he takes over for LA as well. I went into the Broadway production not expecting much from MJT. I thought he was funny, charming, charismatic and sang the score better than I any Pippin I've seen. Still can't believe he didn't get a Tony nom.

He is reprising his role here at the Hollywood Pantages in LA!! SO we're seeing the original pippin John Rubinstein as Charles, original revival Pippin Mathew James Thomas, & original revival Berthe Andrea Martin. SO HAPPY!!!!! Have two tickets so far. Now I'm without no doubt buying 1 more ticket for that third week.

I wonder if Selig and the creatives reached some differences, and running into vocal problems was a way of letting him go. But hasn't other actors vocally ran into problems with the show? I have also noticed that any promotion that they had of him is starting to get taken down.

The people seeing him on tour are extremely lucky to have him. He's an exceptional performer.

I feel sorry for Kyle Selig, but not knowing him from Adam, I feel no sense of loss having him skip LA, too. I'm thrilled I get another chance to see MJT in LA now. If only the bloody (but beautiful) Pantages wasn't such a barn.

The role of Pippin doesn't seem so vocally hard, I would understand if Sasha had to go on vocal rest but something seems very odd about this with Kyle.

I guess if you were cast based on look rather than voice type it could be a difficult role to sing.

Pippin's notes are pretty up there, I think MJT and Kyle Dean just make it look really easy. I think if you're not a true tenor, Pippin could be very demanding. Especially if you just have the notes, but they're not in your range. Then again Segal was with BoM so the notes are clearly there. Who knows?

From checking out Selig's twitter account he's made it apparent that he would return after Denver, but it looks like that changed today. Perhaps the local presenters in LA and San Fran put in a bid to have Mathew James headline their engagement, the producers negotiated and Kyle will be a standby and then continue full time. 3 months just seems like a long time for vocal rest, but the again we haven't been given how big the situation is.

well see what happens down the road. I know Thomas left the Broadway company as he said he didn't want his performance to get stale. We'll see if Selig joins later on or if it'll be someone new.

I'd be pissed if I was due to headline a National Tour of a hit Broadway Revival and then be bumped down to standby as the tour progresses...oof.

Wouldn't be the first time it's happened.

The BoM producers had enough faith in Kyle Selig to have him do an entire week straight as Elder Price. Not a lot of other standbys have gotten to do that (who didn't become full-time, anyway).

Sutton Ross, what are you talking about? Pippin is not a vocally demanding role AT ALL. None of those notes should be out of your range especially if you just came from singing Book of Mormon where it's all tenor notes. That makes no sense. He has one or two big songs, and that's it.

Uh, no. I'm a singer. I do musical theater. This is not a vocally demanding role. This is not Evita. Or Elphaba. Or hell, even Elder Price.

Unless it's a medical problem (nodules or whatever), I can't see how Pippin is so demanding as to require more than a month of "vocal rest".

I saw Kyle at the end of his full Elder Price week in Vegas, and he sounded pretty good. True, he wasn't belting it out like most -- but though he may have been lacking a little in volume, he seemed to have no trouble hitting the notes. I figured he'd do fine as Pippin, and was looking forward to seeing him when the show came to L.A.

Guess now I can look forward to seeing MJT instead, along with Andrea Martin. So I can't complain. Still, I hope things turn out OK for Kyle.

Is Andrea Martin doing the LA Engagement? I think we're getting Lucie Arnez in San Francisco.

Regardless of the vocal challenges of Pippin, it's weird that he's on vocal rest just from rehearsals. Which leads me to believe it's not vocal rest.
