"It's now rather very common to hear people say 'I'm rather offended by that'. As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more than a whine. It has no meaning, no purpose. It has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that'. Well, so f**king what?"--Stephen Fry

It's hard to tell what he's for or against, really.

Christian White is an everyman, as in "every man who would likely want to see this movie anyway."

Which brings up an interesting hypothetical about diversity and inclusiveness: is the obligation to be diverse and inclusive universal, or does it center on things that are not enormously niche-specific? To wit: every year we see think pieces and debates on the necessity of minority and queer voices in popular music, with issues of race and sexual identity looming large in the hip-hop world last year, and the pop world the year before that. But no one ever asks questions about the necessity of, or lack of, LGBT or POC in country music, which is not traditionally known for its queer or nonwhite following.

Does this whitewashing and straightening make country music intrinsically racist and homophobic, or is it just what it is, and nobody but Darius Rucker and (allegedly) Keith Urban wants to join the club? Ever since leaving grad school with a certification in Women, Gender and Queer studies, these questions boggle my mind every day.
