Hi! Long-time message board reader, finally made an account! :)
My mom, sister (almost 16), and I are headed to NYC this weekend and I'm trying to figure out what to see. We have 7 pm tix for Hedwig on Saturday, so now I'm trying to decide on something for Sunday. I was thinking Cabaret or Beautiful? So bummed that I'm missing previews starting for CURIOUS by a week and a half!

Both of those are selling very well so you'll have to go online to get tickets and expect to pay full price. I don't know if that's a consideration at all. Gentleman's Guide is rather fun (and it won best musical), and I enjoy Kinky Boots (that one is on TKTS as well).

I think you could probably get tix to either of the shows you suggested-I just don't know what your price range is.

As for Beautiful, Jessie is on vacation this week, so if you're going to see her, you can cross that off your list...

good to know about Jessie- that's definitely my draw to Beautiful. What about plays/off-broadway?

If you want to spend money on the tickets for Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, you won't be disappointed. I here This Is Our Youth is pretty good. If you are in town when It's Only A Play starts previews, you should definitely go.

thank you! I would love to try to catch a preview of It's Only A Play on Sunday, but it looks like tickets are few and far between!

Pippin is a lot of fun! I haven't seen this cast, but I understand the show is in good shape.

If you've never seen Cabaret, I'd say see it over Beautiful. If you have seen Cabaret, and particularly if you've seen Cumming, then I'd say Beautiful.

Beautiful is a second rate schmaltz fest served to near perfection. It's a miracle that it works, but it works! And often with poignancy and heart that one rarely sees on Broadway.

This production of Cabaret serves up something extraordinary (the previous revival concept of the landmark musical) but does so far from perfection and with a few misfire performances.

I haven't seen either (only seen the Liza movie version of Cabaret!). Pippin is also on my list of maybes. Is anything off-broadway notable these days? Haven't ever really tried that route on my previous NYC trips!

awesome! thanks so much for everyone's advice! now does anyone have any good tricks for getting cheap tickets? We typically use TKTS, but I know there are definitely other options out there. Unfortunately, most student rush deals I've seen only gives you two tickets, but I would need three...

If you have enough money for Rodger and Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, then you should see that one, during my summer trip I saw it and it was a truly magical night and seeing live was wonderful.

Musical Master- saw that one (and Matilda) last fall! I liked it, but I'm partial to the Brandy/Whitney Houston version that I watched ALL the time when I was little!
