Hey Bro, do you even do P90X or Insanity?

So, I'm thinking of dropping my gym membership and sticking with home workouts for a while. Thanks to a friend, I have free access to P90X and Insanity, dumbbells, bench, pull up bar and yoga mat.

Just curious to hear if any BWWers have done either program. What was your experience like? Was the workout harder or easier than you expected it to be? What were your primary goals? Any words of caution?

My goals are to both lose fat (ideally, dropping 20 lbs) and gain muscle. With that in mind, I'm thinking of doing Insanity and then moving on to P90X.

I would recommend Insanity first, like you said. I did P90x and it was extremely difficult. It started out fine, but they move so quickly on the DVD I felt like I wasn't doing a lot of the exercises properly. The first 3 weeks were fine and I noticed results almost immediately, but as I went on it kept getting harder on my body. My body was in pain almost every day and I had never dreaded wanting to do a workout in my life. It became a chore.

The results were great though, and I was planning on moving over to Insanity when I finished p90x, but once I finished my body shut down and I think I went a whole month before getting the motivation to start another workout- that 3-4 weeks off and I lost most of the results I had by the end of it.

They recommend following the meal plan as well, which I loosely followed, but I'm wondering if I followed the meal plan strictly then my body might have been able to handle it better. My friends were doing Insanity and I wished I had done that one instead. Part of me wants to go back and try it again, that might be my fall goal.

Insanity is probably better for losing fat. p90x is for serious athletic people. As a dancer, I did the "lean " version of P90x, there are 2 programs, one to become Lean and tone and the main one to bulk up. p90x uses a lot of weights, and a pull up bar, I believe Insanity uses nothing extra than yourself.

I will say, the Yoga on P90x was so difficult, I could barely get through the 1.5 hour workout. It made Bikram seem like beginners Yoga.

Thanks, Drew. Appreciate the feedback. What I might consider doing is supplementing Insanity with some "regular" weight lifting. I've read that some people have combined both Insanity and P90X at the same time, but those people can go fück themselves.
