I believe the only $37 orchestra seats available are through the daily lottery.

Saw Rannells for the first time on Saturday at the 10PM show. We had seen NPH twice, one early Saturday, one 10PM. We had 8PM tix to Lady Day (amazing) and did the math and figured we could make it in time for Hedwig. $99 BroadwayBox code got us A6 + A8 in the Mezz, and by leaving Lady Day as soon as the final note was played got us to the Belasco with 5 minutes to spare.

What we could see of the Orchestra was full. Mezz was maybe 40% full. First two rows of the sides was mostly taken, about 3/4 of the center Mezz was full. Couldn't see the balcony.

Noticed immediately that the bass player had changed. Younger guy with longer hair than the green-haired bassist we had seen before. No change in quality of the band, though.

We thought Andrew was better at the poignant parts of the show and was a better singer, NPH was better at the comedy bits. Did not notice any ad libs by Andrew. Wish they had changed the Kathy Griffith line -- there's no "historical reason" to keep that joke in when it easily could be replaced.

Andrew did not come back as the bishop at the end, is this a permanent change or just Saturday? They did do the regular back and forth with the box.

Kathy Griffin played the Belasco, if that's the history you're looking for.

I know that. I just thought they could come up with a different joke.

Frankie and Johnnie lends itself well, for instance.

To my knowledge, that costume NPH wore at the top of the curtain call was not meant to be the bishop (Belasco). It's meant as a tongue-in-cheek homage to Rylance's costume in "Twelfth Night".

I can see that. And did see him do so twice, but Rannells didn't. FWIW which isn't much.

Matt (the green haired bassist) is still a member of Tits of Clay so maybe he was sick and had someone stand in?

I really hope word of mouth really brings more people in to see Andrew, this is the way Hedwig is REALLY meant to be portrayed. NPH did an amazing job but this Hedwig is the perfect balance of poignant and comedy. As someone previously mentioned, you really can hear a pin drop in the theatre during the emotional moments and emotional pauses. Andrew really has the talent of pulling you in and making you FEEL for that character.

I am seeing this show for the first time this Sunday and I am happy to read all the wonderful Andrew Rannells comments here. I am going with a good friend who saw NPH a few times in HEDWIG so it will be interesting to hear his impressions on the differences between the two.

MidnightRadio, I agree with your assessment of Rannells. I saw him last night and was blown away. His voice, his vulnerability...he was wonderful. Having never been able to see NPH, I was completely happy with this version.

PJPan, I'm glad you see what I see and like most of us who've been fans since the Jane. Rannells is far and away a fan favourite Hedwig at this point! I say Michael C Hall is really going to bring something special to the character.

Have a great time, Dennis! I've seen Andrew twice now and he's fantastic.

That is a good review, and I enjoyed Rannells a lot in the role. I hope to see all the Hedwigs, and it would be great if the producers continue to attract top talent to the role!

Saw the show tonight! For those interested I got a TKTS ticket (oof, that line? Crazytown) for under $50. Last row of the Mezz, but I could see everything, and it was an awesome seat.

As for the show: I loved it! I'd never seen Hedwig before, and I'd tried to listen to the recording, but just couldn't totally get into it. Well, I'm a fan. I just thought it was so brilliant. I really, really loved the production. I love a big set, but I also love a smart design, and I thought this show had some great moments with lighting and design.

Lena Hall was just astounding. Her "I Will Always Love You" was just crazy controlled, and her end part was so screlty fantastic. I can see why she won the Tony. I almost wish she had more to do.

Andrew was great. To me his voice got a little too nasal towards the end of the show - like on the big ballads - but he really kicked ass on the more uptempo songs. I would say some of the jokes didn't land, and some of the bits seemed to not work. His acting is great, and I was engaged.

I think I might go back and see Michael C Hall. Curious to see what someone else brings to it.

SPOILER
At the end they have some guy come to the box seat and wave as the ghost of the Belasco. Wonder why they changed that? Since someone said Neil wore a big costume? Andrew did the whole end of the show in black boy shorts. Hm?

Also, how does Lena Hall do her change? Does she do it in the back of the house? I didn't see where she exited or changed? Just curious. Updated On: 10/11/14 at 12:46 AM

Neil wore the same costume at the end that Andrew wears. For Neil's last show there was a guy in the box during curtain call wearing a bishop costume.

Hm. There was a guy in the box tonight, but it was just an older white man with a cigar? Not sure if that's a nightly thing or not. They didn't really make a huge issue out of it, it was more like you saw it or you didn't.
