I know he was 96, but SNL will not be the same without him.

I'm old enough to remember him from Jeopardy! when he was the announcer, and Art Fleming was the host.

It WILL be weird to hear someone else as the announcer on SNL.

Of all the lore built up over the years at SNL, one that always makes me smile is hearing cast members talk about the first time they heard Don Pardo say their name at the top of the show. To have a legacy where entire generations of artists revere that experience and revel in it... he will be missed!
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

So sad. For the past few years he was announcing from his home in Arizona, he found the weekly trips to NYC to be too taxing. I used to love hearing his stories and watching him make time with all the young ladies at 8H when he was well into his 90's. He was notorious for raiding the Kraft Service Table.

He lived a wonderful life. He was a wonderful announcer and hearing any stories involving him were always great.

I loved the time James Van Der Beek hosted and they had a running gag with Pardo's voice announcing him very flirtatiously, as if Pardo were a lovesick tween.

A life well lived. Hope they dedicate the 1st show of the season to him. RIP.

Wasn't Don Pardo the announcer on the original The Price Is Right with Bill Cullen back in the 50s?

Having worked on SNL since the late eighties, I have so many wonderful memories of this man. One, I will never forget was him flirting with a couple girls in the hallway where we were finishing a project for the show. He was so involved, he didn't realize rehearsal was starting. He heard the band start up and he SPRINTED to the recording booth yelling, "That's my cuuuuuue!" in his unforgettable voice.
For a long time, he was a part of the warm up act where he would annouce a random audience member's name.

Forgive me if this is too soon to speculate, but who will replace Pardo? His iconic voice has been part of New York and television culture for fifty years now (the Broadway revival of "Little Shop" even imitated him in the prologue).

Will they get another professional announcer/voiceover artist, or, following the recent tradition in casting announcers and side-men in late night shows, will it be someone with a connection to the program? Perhaps there is a veteran of SNL waiting in the wings to take up the microphone next year.

Darryl Hammond can do a pretty good Pardo, though I think that would be tacky. I am hoping they find another announcer who has an iconic voice. Mr Movie trailer dude?

What about Johnny Gilbert the present Jeopardy! announcer? A bit blander than Pardo but be an nice bit of continuity.

Very sad to hear of his passing, SNL won't be the same without him.

As for a replacement, I think Steve Higgins would do a great job.
