Addy, that is gold!

It's clearly not recorded from the theater which makes me wonder if there is some lost film version of Applause somewhere.

It's from the TV adaptation of Applause which aired on CBS in 1973. It's not available commercially but can be seen at the Paley Center in New York (or the various clips on YouTube).

It's available on YouTube in 11 parts, but there's a better-quality version of it floating around.

Larry Hagman plays the Len Cariou part, and Harvey Evans is her gay best friend.

RIP Lauren Bacall. So many great performances on stage and on film but my favorite little gem of a performance was in SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL (1964), not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but Lauren Bacall's hilarious performance as Henry Fonda's perpetually pissed-off wife was one of the film's highlights.

Another favorite performance: Her role as Streisand's mother in THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES (1996).

Here I share a photo from SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL. Bacall's expression says it all!

Here's to one of the girls who was one of the boys,
Who enjoyed the jokes and the smokes and the noise.

R.I.P. To one of THE GREATS.

I met her once, briefly, while walking in Central Park close to the Dakota. It was shortly after she lost the Oscar for "The Mirror Has Two Faces." I'd heard horror stories about her, but I found her warm and gracious, and I felt comfortable enough to tell her I thought she should have won (which I did and still do.) Her response: "You're damn right I should have won!"
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

I highly recommend her first autobiography "By Myself" to everyone. It was my first introduction to her after first seeing a full page New York Times ad announcing "Woman Of The Year". I saw Woman right after she won the Tony. I saw it again halfway thru her run and at her final performance. Her presence was just so magnetic to me. Years later I saw her in that play she did with Rosemary Harris. She did have to be helped on and off the stage and she had definitely slowed down quite a bit. But the magic was all there.

@Carlos ; Glad to hear I wasn't the only queen running around school with a copy of "By Myself". But you must be older than me because I think I read it around 8th grade.

I'm older than everybody and just bitchy enough to want to get back to the subject - Lauren Bacall. She was my ideal when I was growing up. Others wanted to be a nurse or a stewardess when they grew up (remember - it was the mid-50's and we didn't know any better) but I just wanted to be Lauren Bacall. I had good taste.

RIP, Slim.

"You must have been looking in the mirror when you typed that."

Or perhaps, the mirror has two faces?

The mirror DOES NOT have two faces. That book was published in 1978...I read it in 1986...eight years AFTER it's original publication date. I was 17 when I read it. I am 46 as I type this.

I love you DAME, but don't you EVER refer to me as just ALBERTO.

I am so sorry CarlosAlberto. I stand corrected. I am 50. So obviously the one that is confused is me. But I did read it in high school.
