I am so saddened by this. Someone in my office just told me and my jaw dropped.

I still remember his work on 'Mork and Mindy' with co-star Pam Dawber.

Terrible news. Saw him first in Mork & Mindy; never forgot his appearance on Inside the Actor's Studio; 60 minutes of laughter. .

Beyond sad news. He battled his demons for so long, it's terrible to see them win but he put up a good fight. RIP funny man

Ugh. So terribly sad. Friends who made it to Outfest this year were raving about his performance in Boulevard in which he plays a gay man in a marriage of convenience.

Truly tragic and sad. Some of the funniest people are the saddest inside. He battled demons for so long.

Btw, E! Handled the breaking news of this SO uncomfortably. I'd blame it on "being young" and not knowing any better than to sound trite and fake in their sympathies. (And yes, while still allowing for the fact that as a personality, you don't to process your own feelings about a loss while you're covering it, but after.) However, Giuliana, Jason Kennedy, Maria Menounos, and Ross Matthews...they *are* all seasoned veterans in entertainment news.

Most surprised by Giuliana's initial opening statement: "...he's the LAST person you'd expect this from, he was so happy."

Um, no, Giuliana, he's been public about his depression for years. He was decidedly not the happiest man. This is what I mean when I say these folks should have known better. You work for an *Entertainment* network, and entertainers already have common knowledge of this stuff.

"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had the practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." --Alice in Wonderland

Kinda wondering what Letterman & John Stewart will have to say- Stewart was also in Smoochy and He and Williams seemed to esp hit it off.

Letterman probably won't get to say anything (on his show) til tomorrow. The news became public around 6pm CST (7pm EST), and Letterman tapes his show at 4pm EST. Maybe tomorrow...?

I know, I know. It came on while I was making dinner, and I'm a broadcaster. It's more second-nature to simply observe coverage rather than purposely "analyze" such things.

It was annoying and could have been better, is a more brief way of putting it. But if I had just said that, it would have been like "well, that's vague, why say anything." I really am surprised at Giuliana Rancic; she's "THE" credible one at that network nowadays (I believe she's managing editor, also). And though she's all Hollywood-y, she usually finds more articulate, less pithy--and truthful--ways to say things. She did not pay proper tribute to the icon whom they were last-minute-breaking-news-fake(ish)-mourning this evening. I guess watch the rerun of E! News, later tonight.

God, it's like I lost a part of my childhood and adolescence. Such an incredible talent and a hugely underrated dramatic actor.
"It's now rather very common to hear people say 'I'm rather offended by that'. As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more than a whine. It has no meaning, no purpose. It has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that'. Well, so f**king what?"--Stephen Fry

I spent the day with my nephew who loves anything and everything to do with Peter Pan. In an attempt to have him watch something Pan related that he hadn't seen a million times over, I found on Netlifx, and shared with him one of my all time favorite movies, Hook. That's a movie that has always put a lump in my throat towards the end, no matter how many times I see it. However, it put more of a lump in my throat this time around because as the credits were just starting to roll, I got a push alert on my phone from the NY Times regarding the passing of Robin Williams.

All I can say is that he's been one of my favorite performers for years and had great depth as an actor. Not only going from comedy to drama, but also had the strong ability to create touching and memorable characters in both genres as well. RIP Mr. Williams, and thanks for the memories.

I can't imagine what it is like to live with so much pain. How extraordinary that he was able--for so long--to turn that pain into pleasure for others.

Rest in Peace.
