Why isn't Sam Rockwell a star?? I mean a huge star? He is just superb in Fool For Love. I love all his film work and remember him from years ago in Human Remains I think was the title? When you see actors like Jeremy Renner and Christian Bale being praised for their "edge" and then you see the real thing with Rockwell. Now there is an actor!!
And he's so good in THE WAY, WAY BACK. He does lovable and monstrous equally effectively in his various roles. Really wish I could get to Williamstown this summer but unfortunately it looks like that will not happen. Updated On: 8/2/14 at 09:05 AM
His performance in THE WAY WAY BACK is one of my favorite recent performances. He should have been nominated for major awards.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Perhaps the best question I've heard on bww ever. I've heard it asked before on another site and someone said because he wasn't hot enough, to which I responded "you can't be serious!"
My own feeling is that he's someone playing the long game, a great and highly acclaimed actor's actor who will have a very long career filled with good and important work and the great respect of the industry. The male Toni Collette. Updated On: 8/2/14 at 09:39 AM
I had the great pleasure of working the house for a show he did regionally years ago. He was not only amazing with what seemed like boundless energy, but a very nice, down to earth guy. I really wish I could've seen him and Arianda on stage together. They are both very charismatic performers and I can only imagine the energy on that stage between them.
He certainly is one of our finest working actors. But don't feel too bad for him. He's had a fantastic career working pretty much consistently in a wide variety of indie films, blockbusters and theatre. He seems very satisfied with his career:
I loved "The Way, Way Back". Such a great movie that everyone should see IMO
"All our dreams can come true -- if we have the courage to pursue them." -- Walt Disney
We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
He was magnificent in The Way, Way Back (which is a criminally underrated movie). I hope this production comes to New York with him and Nina Arianda, both of them are such dynamic performers and I would love to see them playing off each other onstage.
He's an incredibly gifted actor. I mean, "Snow Angels", "Moon", "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind", "Seven Psychopaths", "Matchstick Men"... all tremendous work.
I love him. He's in the new Poltergeist reboot, set to come out in Feb of next year. I'm very excited for it. I don't think he would do a remake/reboot of this franchise unless the script was good.
