She'll be in the role Lea Delaria did last time around?

No. DeLaria played Hildy. Mary Testa was Madame Dilly.

Adore Jackie Hoffman! Anytime she's in a show, it's reason enough to see it.

gstrus2- Michael Rupert played Pitkin at Barrington Stage, but, as far as I know, his return to the role has not been confirmed or denied yet.

I assume this means Opel is gonna do Honeymoon in Vegas?

I hope she'll be a little more respectful of the material this time around and avoid turning it into the Jackie Hoffman Show like she did with Xanadu.
That's right! Underscore mother-fu@#ers!

When I saw this, I instantly pictured her as Lucy Schmeeler ... but I guess she's a bit old for that part now.

BTW, it's "Madam Dilly" not "Tilly." And the song she sings is a showstopper.

I'm sure she'll do well with Mme Dilly. Andrea Martin, who did the role (also under Rando's direction) at Encores, weirdly missed all the laughs in the part; it's the only time I haven't enjoyed her. I was expecting a lot from her in advance, but she just did bug-eyed drunken mugging instead of pinning down a character (which is where the laughs come from). Michael Cumpsty was far funnier (with less helpful material) as Pitkin, because he did establish a character.

Why would anybody be respectful to the material in Xanadu? She was directed to do what she did.

Along the lines of FindingNamo's comment, to be cast in Xanadu, a show which I love btw, and turn it into the Jackie Hoffman Show seems to me the definition of understanding and having respect for the material.

More casting...I really really hope this is an exceptional production that does great business, I'm just very skeptical about the latter (no matter how impressive the former).

Whahuh? I didn't see her do any more mugging than the rest of the cast, which was, you know, the whole concept of the show. I mean...Mary friggin' TESTA for Chissakes! And thank God for Hoffman and Chamberlain in Addams Family. They were the only reasons I stayed for the second act.

I think Michael Rupert is wonderful in anything. *sigh*
