Late to the party on this band, but I kind of like them. The lead singer is kind of amazing.
Apparently, this is the most viewed music clip in Late Show history
"It's now rather very common to hear people say 'I'm rather offended by that'. As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more than a whine. It has no meaning, no purpose. It has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that'. Well, so f**king what?"--Stephen Fry

That Letterman performance is hypnotic. Easily the most memorable late night musical guest spot I've seen in a while.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

"Seasons" is a masterpiece and really should stand the text of time. Song of summer, song of year, song of decade. I could just continue these hosannas. Managed to combine throwback of 60s pop with synths. And I have watched that performance many, many times.

Their sound reminds me more of Roxy Music than anything.

I think the new record gets really samey sounding at times and the more I listened to it, the more I thought it was right on the verge of collapsing into Coldplay hogwash and hooey. Still, I LOVED that Letterman performance and bought a festival ticket to specifically to see Future Islands and The National and Neutral Milk Hotel (for the second time, a band I never thought I'd see once!).

It is an oddly compelling clip, although the song itself didn't do as much for me as his performance...

The other strange Late Show band clip of late was The Orwells. I'm guessing they played a much shorter version than they did in rehearsal, leaving the show with a minute to fill at the end, so Dave asked them to play it again, but they just stood there not knowing what to do or if he was kidding or something, so Paul and the band started playing a pretty note-perfect version of their song instead?!

That Orwells thing is really adorable. And the lead singer is named Mario Cuomo. Roxy hates them.
