I ma seriously so thrilled than I started this thread a couple weeks ago. Being out here in the Hinterlands I never am kept in the gossip loop of people in-the-know! I concur that doesn't Dames need a smaller house because didn't I originally read somewhere it is a "small-ish" production?
I've heard lots about Heathers, both good and bad, but it seems like the number of people talking about it here deem it will be coming in. Boy was I surprised when I heard of revivals of Whorehouse and Molly Brown happening. Further comments on these? Who's producing? Who's starring?
I'm sure everybody recently read about Forum and how they may rotate stars in the production (I think that was in the Times.)
Nobody has mentioned yet, so I'll throw it out there, of a transfer from Kennedy Center of The Little Dancer to the GREAT (?!!) White Way. Is our poor Susan Stroh too bruised after Big Fish and Bullets?
I had always also understood that Papermill's Can-Can this fall was a likely candidate to transfer, unless the reviews were absolutely horrible.
What about, again, My bodyguard? Any new news on that arriving this side of the pond?

I will close today's message with something that has been bothering me for a long time: The box office for Rock of Ages always is at a 85-90% seats sold. Well, of course it's at one of our quaint, smaller houses, so can't we put that infuriatingly too-long of a run of a jukebox musical into a larger house where it belongs and give us back our Helen Hayes for more intimate musicals or dramas?
I will continue to look forward to checking this thread. Thanks!

PS: Somebody commented that The Visit is too large of a show to go into the John Golden. From people who have seen this production up north, comment on this? I'm under the impression that aside from having Chita in the show, it's a relatively small cast?

I wonder if Can Can would hold off to see how An American In Paris does on Broadway?

I think the Helen Hayes is in need of a new tenant. And I know what would just fit perfectly...

Since we now know that finding neverland will either be at the marquis or brooks Atkinson, does anybody know what's going into the winter garden next? Also, is there going to be anything in the palace for the fall?

If Finding Neverland was going to the Atkinson (post Love Letters) or the Marquis, they could have announced the theatre. Saying a Nederlander theatre to be announced indicates a Nederlander theatre that is currently occupied by another show.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Smaxie, all of the other nederlander theatres have long running shows that show no stop of closing any time soon. The nederlander theatre already has honeymoon coming in, the neil Simon has the last ship coming in, and the palace has an American in Paris coming in the spring. This leaves the marquis and the brooks Atkinson the only theatres available during the spring since the shows that are going into those theatres are limited runs and closing in early 2015. So the brooks Atkinson or the marquis theatre it is!

As Smaxie posits, the fact that they didn't announce either the Atkinson or the Marquis when they appear to be free for the spring leads me to believe that AN AMERICAN IN PARIS will not be going into the Palace after all or IF/THEN or MOTOWN will close by March to free up either the Rodgers or Lunt. I'd lean towards IF/THEN out of the two.

MOTOWN is still grossing $1 million a week. It's not going anywhere. IF/THEN will close when Idina leaves.
A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.

Miss Saigon would work really well at the Winter Garden, but I think most people would want it back at the Broadway. Also, the Broadway is always an option if Cinderella closes in January.

I know Motown's advance sales are dwindling, but not enough to close this Spring. My guess is Winter 2015

I know Dian Paulus is tough on choosing theaters, based on Pippin, they were looking at A LOT if theaters. So I think they are between the Marquis and the Atkinson. My guess is that they are leaning towards the Marquis.

Our dear friend CapnHook called the Marquis for Neverland a few days after the Tonys. Kudos.

Smaxie that's possible but it doesn't always happen that way. Sometimes they just hold back the name if they're not 100% sure which house they're taking.

I think Smaxie is right. I think they're playing it by ear. Come December we might not have The Last Ship or If/Then. Who knows. If they wanted those houses they would have announced it as they are available. And they didn't. So they're holding out for a certain house.

RW3, I would argue that the Winter Garden is completely the wrong theatre for MISS SAIGON. The Prince Edward is a very narrow stage and the direction pretty much relies on this proportion of the stage, while the Winter Garden features the widest proscenium on Broadway, and is also not very tall, so I really don't think it would work at all.
Please note: any opinions regarding shows or otherwise that are stated by this account, no matter how they are presented represent a personal opinion and should not be taken as an attempt to convey facts and disagreement with my opinion is not only welcome but I highly encourage it to inspire lively and healthy debate.

Idina is contracted in if/then for a year so I can't see that show closing by the time finding neverland would need to move in so the Rodgers is out. You're right though, the Neil Simon might very well be available for the spring but out of the marquis, Neil Simon, and brooks Atkinson, my quess is that finding neverland would go into the marquis. I do feel bad for the Neil Simon though since its last few musicals have been flops I.e. Big fish, scandalous, JCS, catch me if you can and ragtime. I have a feeling the last ship will be another flop...

I don't know why anyone would want the Winter Garden. It made sense for Rocky because of the wrap around Mezz. It made it feel like an arena. But for most shows, why would you want half the audience to be partial view?

The Winter Garden is awesome, I think. I don't think the sightlines are bad (I sat on the side in the rear orch and didn't miss a thing). I can think of theaters where the sightlines are worse (RODGERS-1/2 the orch is partial view for most shows because of that overhang).

I think saying a "Nederlander" theater could indeed mean that are hoping to move in to a soon to be vacant theater. It also could be Nederlands have a few projects coming down the pipeline (Neverland, Disney's HUNCHBACK, other Disney properties . . . and who knows what else . . . Doesn't Paper Mill have a connection with Nederlanders?

Also, they may not have all their finances in place - and were waiting for the local reviews to hit . . .

Dreaming, the sight lines at the Winter Garden are horrific if you are anywhere on the side in the mezz or front-mid orchestra. You truly do miss a large portion of the shows.
