The Triad is a cabaret. I saw the original Ruthless with Donna English and Laura Bundy about 10 times. That's no exaggeration. I never remember Bernadette stepping in for Donna English, that's not saying it didn't happen. I just thought I would have heard about it since I was always there. Britney Spears was Laura Bundy's understudy. I never saw her go on. It was one of the FUNNIEST productions I have ever seen. I never had so much fun in the theatre. I don't understand why there isn't, or has never been, a proper revival. It's awesome fun!

It seems this will be the new re-worked version the creators did in CT last year (in case anyone was interested).

Just Got tickets for this. Word is Marvin Laird is playing Sylvia and Joel Pailey is stepping in for 3 shows as Tina Denmark, I also heard that there are special cameo roles at the end of the show perhaps Bernadette? Im going on Sept 6th when Sophia Caruso is on as Tina. This kid seams to be everywhere, can't wait to see what all the buzz is about. http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Sophia-Anne-Caruso-Marvin-Laird-More-Join-Cast-of-RUTHLESS-Benefit-Concert-20140818#.U_8vrkvIrjI

A few people I know seem to believe Bernadette is in fact involved. She has tweeted about it a few times. I'll be there on the 8th.

I'd almost bet money she is now. I had a TDF ticket for the last weekend but they sent me an email saying they had to cancel my ticket for that night.

I'm pretty sure the surprise cameo is going to be a man, considering right at the end of the show, the father enters and says, "Honey, I'm home"
"TheatreDiva90016 - another good reason to frequent these boards less."<<>> I hesitate to give this line of discussion the validation it so desperately craves by perpetuating it, but the light from logic is getting further and further away with your every successive post. <<>> -whatever2

Saw it last night, the show was really really good, Bernadette was in the audience and stayed for a long time after the show, There was a photographer from BWW also who was taking pictures. The show moved quickly and effortlessly I could not stop laughing so many great moments . The theatre is a more intimate setting and it was packed. Someone said they Sold out both nights. They cast it perfectly, Marvin Laird was beyond exceptional at everything, he played the score and performed as Sylvia, they had a second musician on Keyboard as well. Sophia Caruso blew me away, that kid has some pipes she is a star in the making, this role was perfect for her, the crowed cheered after ever number she was in. The role of Tinas Mother was also cast perfectly with Kim Maresca she has an incredible voice with a beautiful operatic quality. I will see the show again. It was delightful. I heard some people talking about they were trying to get the show ready for Broadway if thats the case, in my opinion it will be a huge hit and Tony contender. This show is truly entertaining there was not a dull moment.

I saw the original production of Ruthless about 9 times. Donna English was superb. Laura Bundy was amazing. The laughed more each time I went. I remember one time there was a man sitting with a woman behind me. They were both laughing A LOT. She was giggling. We both stood up at intermission and I said to him without really thinking.. "I am so glad that there is someone else who is laughing as much as me!" He said "Yeah... we love it. I am going to tell all my friends in LA about it" As he was speaking I looked down and Goldie Hawn was sitting there. She was the one that was giggling! I was talking to Kurt Russel and I had no idea until I looked again. lol. I would have never had the nerve to talk to him had I known who he was. I still have some of the programs and I have a poster that was signed by a couple of the people in the cast, including Laura Bundy. It's still one of the funniest shows I ever saw. I never understood how that production wasn't a HUGE hit, but it wasn't. I am not sure Ruthless is right for Broadway but it sure would be great at The New World Stages or a similar venue. I've been waiting all this time for a revival. I just got tickets to go next Sat. I Can't wait!

I saw Ruthless at The Triad. I had a TdF ticket and was in the "Gallery" in the balcony. Kind of a weird seat. Like sitting in the rafters or something. At any rate... about the show. They did change some of the show. I am not sure why, I don't think the changes made things better but they weren't too distracting. They cut Eve's song at the beginning of Act 2 and some other lyrics. I thought Marvin Laird was funny but a little distracting going back and forth to the piano. He is an amazing pianist, and I would have rather seen him there. Sophia Caruso was amazing in the role. I wasn't too thrilled with the mother. I thought she oddly had some pitch problems in her upper register. Sometimes it sounded like she was a full tone off. Although it was really FUN to see the show again, I thought it was not directed very well for the small stage it was on. I spoke to Marvin Laird after and he said that they were bringing back a full production of it. Or at least he alluded to that. I think it would be awesome to see a full production again. It was fun at the Triad but the cabaret staging obviously is no substitute for a full production.

With all due respect, this score isn't significant enough to warrant a concert presentation.

Well...certainly not a concert presentation with the NY Philharmonic but it's a perfectly functional, respectable score for the book it was written for. Some of the score is actually quite well done. I certainly think it deserves another off Broadway run.

A full production, sure. But a concert? Not so much. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

It wasn't really a concert. They had costumes and it was staged (but rather poorly and sloppily) But I do get your point. It will be much better as a full production. But back to those GALLERY SEATS at the Triad!! I mean it was only 20 dollars and no drink Min. on tdf but those seats were crazy.
