I too am intrigued at the idea of Kecia Lewis as the Fairy Godmother. I love her on the DROWSY CHAPERONE album and loved her in the CHICAGO tour a few years ago, and she's a very different style from those who've played her on Broadway so far.
I'm so excited to finally get to see this!! Hopefully they don't tone down the production too too much.
A friend who works with booking shows for certain cities said the tour is expected to remain pretty true to production production. They however are cutting down on the amount of trees that are originally used.
You can briefly see the new design in this clip. Nothing has changed too drastic. I too wonder who will play Madame. Perhaps they have someone big in mind, but it will sale well star or not. I am really intrigued as this cast is more diverse than the original, I also wonder if they'll amp up some of the arrangements for Kecia to suit her voice. Scenic design
I've suggested Kecia several times as the Fairy Godmother and I'm ecstatic that she'll be joining the tour cast. As much as I wished she'd be able to play the role on Broadway, I'm happy that I'll be able to see her on tour when the show comes to my city next year.
I had said that it would all depend on who they cast for Marie and Madame as to if I would see the Tour or not and now with Kecia cast- I am totally seeing this!
It's my understanding they will contract local musician unions to still maintain the big Danny troob sound. All of the big shows have done it so why wouldn't cinderella? It would be unwise of the producers to have a reduced sound.
