Does anyone else find it strange that there is a production of "On The Town" that will start in Chicago in August and will overlap the start of the broadway revival starting previews in September and opening in October?

At first I thought they may have decided to do an out of town run in Chicago and delay the broadway opening, but these seem to be different productions. I thought with broadway revivals they stopped licensing the show for professional productions in the US and all productions within a certain radius of NYC.

Interesting. Like you I guess I had assumed that the Chicago run was a pre-Broadway one of the same production. Guess I didn't read enough details.

This production is taking place at what is essentially glorified dinner theater, done a small stage in the round. Now... the Marriott Lincolnshire can do absolutely lovely work... often featuring the cream of Chicago musical theater talent (and sometimes New York talent), directed by high class folk (Gary Griffin frequently directs here) but there's really no comparison. It's also about forty minutes out of the city.

All that said, I'm looking forward to seeing it. It's a great Chicago cast!

Seem s like there is a list of shows that producers go to when they need a revival. How about reviving previously unreviived shows instead of doing the same ones over and over again.

Another show I am taking a pass on.
