Mr. Roxy, I fear PURLIE will seem awfully dated, if not racist nowadays. Not because the show is racist or because racism has been conquered, but because the show is about a Jim Crow system which has almost been eradicated. (None of this is to call YOU racist. I love that score, myself.)
And i fear for LI'L ABNER. All that Cold War and Atomic Age humor will fall flat I fear (though the score sounds as fresh as ever). Even a major plot point like there being only one day each year when a woman can propose to a man is awfully "Methuselated".
This is one show that seems to cry out for a revisal, but I'm not sure whom I would trust to do it. Is Larry Gelbart still writing? (Again one of my favorite shows and one of the best all-time comedy scores.)

I saw it when Encores did it and it was embarrassing. It came across as very anti-white

If Annie Get Your Gun can be reworked so can Purlie. I saw the original and it was the same way re the white characters. I just watched the shows and enjoyed it pre PC days

Sutton is Leading Lady now. And even though many believe the Baker's Wife is Leading Lady, they would ditch the Baker's Wife to Supporting in a nano-second if they had a star witch.

I'd rather see an ITW revival in 7 years, starring Megan Hilty as the Witch.
Then three years after that I want her to do Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd.
