I loved every second of the broadcast, but stop lying to yourself. Underwood couldn't act her way out of a box. She is a very talented performer (seen her concerts, she is great), but acting isn't her thing. You are talking down to us, yet you have no idea what you are talking about.
Yeah, she can't act worth a good goddamn. But, that's ok because she isn't an actress. Around hour 3 of the SOM she got comfortable enough to be believable, but that's not good enough in a professional production. Totally enjoyable though!
Let's think outside the box. Mickey Rooney would have been great if he hadn't passed in April. The boy who wouldn't grow up. Age, yes, but grow up? Never!
I loved the fresh experience of a male Peter in Stiles and Drewe's musical version of Barrie's play and in a recent ballet version. I've never seen the Styne/Charlap version performed with anyone other than a female so am very excited if this is indeed the way the producers are going. If cast and sung well, it could be something very special.
