My guess is YES, I am alone. It seems that everyone who saw the show had nothing but ravs about it, However i left the show feeling just meh about the whole thing. I don't exactly know why, it just did not affect me in any way. I had fun, but that was it- wasn't that impressed with any part of the show expect when Lena Hall got to belt it out at the end. I just thought everything was just OK. I feel like i must have been missing something because it everyone else who saw it al said how incredible and amazing the show is- but i just did not feel that way. It got me to wonder if i am the only one of the board that saw it and wasn't all that blown away- just had some fun.

I'm sure you aren't the only one. I'm not a big fan of the score but I did find the show excellently done. What did you think of NPH?

I saw it on Thursday night and absolutely loved it and am glad it is getting the raves it deserves. I do understand how someone couldn't get it or not LOVE it. You do have to kind of dig for the meaning a little bit, so if that isn't your thing you probably aren't going to walk away ADORING it. I thought it was quite beautiful and heartbreaking, though a ton of fun of course.

Just OK. I thought he was pretty good, but nothing really special or standout. I didn't feel it was a Tony Winning performance (at least the performance that i saw). I just found him underwhelming. I was waiting for a moment where it would all click and i would be like "i LOVE this" or what a lot of people like about him, but it just did not happen for me. I am actually kind of disappointed in myself because every single person i have talked to who saw the show LOVED it, and then there's me who just found it good.

I just might have to do that. I really thought i would really love it as love these kinds of musicals and music. It's exactly the kind of show and subject that i both have a big interest in and love for. I saw the June 21- 10:00 Show

Why are you even doubting yourself? It's all so subjective. You don't have to like what the next person likes. People actually walk out on the show, be confident in your tastes.

I always recommend people go back again and see something they didn't like. It makes the most sense as an investment of time and money. Lord knows there's not enough other things in the world to try that you might like better.

Sometimes what happens is the hype for a show gets so big that you go in expecting to be wowed instead of just letting yourself naturally enjoy the show.

@ Jane2 You are right- i just guess i am disappointed that i did not enjoy it, because i soo want to. Everything about it screamed "my kinda show!" but it just didn't work.

Well, darreyl, it was pretty obvious that you were inflating your expectations of this all along. Not a single Hedwig thread was created where you didn't post multiple times and always with the questions about the seating and the price and the friends and the relatives… In fact, I feel as if in many posts you were writing from the point of view of somebody who had seen the show. Now finding out you just got around to seeing it, all those posts you made before you did was like watching a little kid fantasize himself into a disastrous Christmas morning.

@ShakinBaconGirl - that might have been what happened. I have watched John Cameron Mitchell's version (The off broadway production, i have yet to see the film ) and really LOVED everything about him- not to mention i think he's really cute (And still is). This was my first time actually seeing the show on stage and i was hyped and ready to just sit back and enjoy, and i did have fun, but that was it.

You hyped yourself and therefore, no, you were not ready to sit back and enjoy it.

So I say move on. Just go see a show without all this pre-investment.

You oughta be ashamed of yourself, is what you oughta be.

There are poor children outside of the metropolitan area who are STARVING for an opportunity to see one of their favorite television actors doing a challenging and rewarding part in a show that deeply affected people's lives a generation ago.

For you to squander and waste such a rare opportunity on a lukewarm reaction that you had willed yourself in advance into having--just so that you could announce (proudly) on social media that you have the (dubious) distinction of being the "only" one to decree "Meh"--it's nothing short of despicable.

Are you really so desperate to be noticed as an individual that you had to start this thread? And how many weeks in advance did you decide that you were going to start it?

I'll agree with two things: you can definitely over hype something in your mind and so what if you didn't fall in love with it? There is not a single show in existence that everyone loves or hates or has mediocre feelings about. (Except for Wildhorn, everyone with taste hates Wildhorn.)

(Comments in parenthesis are humorous. Sort of.)

Well to be fair, it's kinda hard to not hype yourself up when the reviews and the majority of this board have praised this show. But yes, going in without expectation is always the better choice.

No one is placing blame, merely a possible explanation.

@ PalJoey - are you serious?
I just was posting that i was not that affected by the show and wondered if i was alone. Why would i be proud about not enjoying a show? What sense does that make? i mean, WTF?

:::Well to be fair, it's kinda hard to not hype yourself up when the reviews and the majority of this board have praised this show.:::

One thing I like to do is completely stay out of the frenzied miasma before I actually get to see a show I am interested in. That means, minimal reading of threads or articles about said show, especially those by the chronic masturbators first nighters who delight in spoiling the show down to the minutest detail. Honestly, dariel's "ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO" in every single Hedwig thread was foreshadowing the disaster up ahead.

Special shout out to PalJoey for reminding us all on this important day that Stonewall means "FIGHT BACK!".

SBG, let's make a primer in how to get through life while minimizing disappointment. Maybe a buzzfeed click-bait kind of thing?
