Hi, has anyone heard anything on when Michelle is leaving? A recent interview said November, but on Twitter I read it may be August 31st? If anyone knows or heard anything, that would be great.
Williams is the only reason I'd return, as the original with Cummings and Richardson was one of those perfect experiences. I wonder if Williams is enjoying this run. Sally remains a very difficult role to play. If you sing too well, you are compared to Minnelli or told you're too good for a 2nd rate wannabe chanteuse; if you sing weakly, i.e. in character, you disappoint the audience expecting known songs to thrill. It's almost a no-win situation, harking back to poor Jill Hayworth, who took such a terrible critical beating (still my favorite vocals for all numbers, including the title song; go figure). Williams got some lovely notices, but that bizarre review in the Times, and no Tony nod. I often wonder what pleasures the role offers actors so often forced into the shadows of the film or (fill in the blank, someone's idea of ideal).

Celia Keenan-Bolger played Sally in a production of CABARET her senior year at the University of Michigan, oddly enough. In a Broadway.com interview at the Tony nominee reception this year, she said she was "embarrassingly terrible" and felt very uncomfortable playing the part.
Personally, I still think Lauren Ambrose would be absolutely superb casting for this production.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Wasn't it rumored that Emma Stone was going to be Sally before Michelle Williams was announced? I wonder if that was just a rumor or if there was any truth to it and it just fell through.
In any case, I'm sure this will run for a few years in any case.
^ I'd usually agree that Emma Stone is too big a name, but playing Sally Bowles early on the run of the new revival of Cabaret would not be too out of place. I think she'd make a fantastic Sally, as well as Charity. Hope she will take the Broadway plunge one day!

I finally got to see it this afternoon. Before Michelle Williams leaves, be it August, November, January ... GO! She is nothing short of stunning. I can not get her performance out of my head. I mean, really fantastic!! :)
