I'm really shocked that of all shows that are closing, Newsies is the one that's closing. And it seems like it's closing because a LOT of shows are coming this season. What shows do you think are next?
I'm guessing: -Cinderella. The person who announced Paige and Nancy first did say that they're looking for big-name stars to take over for the fall and I'm trusting him/her, but I will not be surprised if it closes -Holler if You Can Hear Me -Hedwig (like it's planning to, so this is not a guess) -Les Miserables
I'm also giving Aladdin a year because obviously, they're saving the place for HoND.
Les Miserables is one of the biggest hits of the season...it's not going anywhere.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
My money's on ONCE, as much as I love that show, it's time is waning.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
Shows close because of money 99% of the time. If a show is making money (unless its a strictly limited run) it stays open. It has nothing to do with the number of shows coming in.
Hedwig already announced a replacement for NPH.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Newsies was advertised as a Limited Engagement when it opened a few years ago. I think they even spelled out "14 Weeks Only!" or somesuch. It's a good way to let people know you better buy tickets now, this may not be around long. But, once something is making money... it is difficult to shut off the tap.
For Hedwig, I think that language was specifically used as NPH didn't plan to extend. Now, assuming people continue to buy tickets, I imagine we'll get rotating Hedwigs for a while. If they wanted to close it off after NPH, they'd probably not bother putting Andrew in.
With Les Mis doing as well as it is, its not going anywhere anytime soon. Neither is Hedwig now w/ andrew rannells taking over for NPH.
I think the clock is running out (pun completely intended) for Cinderella, and Once too, it had a nice run.
I'm interested to see what happens with HOLLAR IF YA HEAR ME at the Palace, or it that is going to be free soon as well.
Aladdin isn't closing so fast, its making a lot of money and doing well for Disney. My original thought would be that Newsies would close later for Hunchback (Which is at Paper Mill next March) but given the time frame, disney will probably find another theater for it (MAYBE THE PALACE???)
Once I think will close in the next few months, Cinderella I think probably will close in January and I wouldn't be surprised if Rock of Ages announces its closing as well.
Will the tourists ever let Mamma Mia close? We should be so lucky...
Once just replaced its signage last weekend; not sure if that guarantees anything but it probably means they're intending to be open for several more months.
Every time someone mentions Rock of Ages still being open, I'm shocked.
Mamma Mia! seems to have recovered from its intial slump it had when it moved to the Broadhurst so I'm guessing its safe for now. Updated On: 6/22/14 at 09:53 PM
OMG, Jeffrey. You don't detect just a note of sarcasm in FishermanBob's post? The "Mormon" thing didn't give it away for you. By the way, it's not a bad idea to assume that FishermanBob knows what he's talking about, at least as a general rule.

"Both Bronx Bombers & Soul Doctor are already closed!"
I missed them? Damn it! OK, I'm revising my guess to After Midnight. In fact, I have it on good authority, so I can guarantee you After Midnight will be the next show to close. Wait, After Midnight starts at 3 on Sundays. Doesn't Casa Valentina start at 2 on Sundays? OK, last revision, I can now guarantee that Casa Valentina will be the next show to close.
