What are some productions that have received the most ecstatic reviews of all time, particularly from The New York Times? I understand that Guys and Dolls (1992) is up there.

Although I was personally very underwhelmed with the show, if I remember correctly, "Matilda" got some pretty amazing raves all across the board.

if you're looking for specific review, the times review of Peter and the Starcatcher gives the show some crazy high praise.
You taste the silver Sara, you taste the crown, you thirst for blood from the roses in hand, oh you spoil for sash and scepter doing a dance, as they crown you queen of High School Land.

Lots and lots of shows have received rave reviews across the years. How do you begin to judge whether one rave review was more ecstatic than another rave given 30 years apart written by completely different people?

THE BOOK OF MORMON, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, the last revival of HAIR, THE NORMAL HEART, TWELFTH NIGHT/RICHARD III, BILLY ELLIOT, URINETOWN, NEXT TO NORMAL, and THE PRODUCERS are all recent shows that came to mind right away.

Current Avatar: Tony-winner Idina Menzel, delivering a sucker-punch of an 11:00 number, "Always Starting Over," in IF/THEN.

I seem to remember the NYT review for the original PROMISES, PROMISES began with "Oh God, yes!"
"It's now rather very common to hear people say 'I'm rather offended by that'. As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more than a whine. It has no meaning, no purpose. It has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that'. Well, so f**king what?"--Stephen Fry
