So I noticed that Yitzhaks song Random Number Generation is missing from the revival recording, has it been removed from the actual show or did they just not record it?
It's just a bonus track. The back of the CD even has an asterisk next to the song that specifically says "Additional album track. Does not appear in show."
Maybe I'm remembering this incorrectly, but I believe Random Number Generation was written with the intention of using it to cover a costume change for Hedwig but never put into the actual show. I can't remember where I read that, though. Maybe one of the old Hedwig fan sites that collected all the interviews they could find?
From what I remember, the song was included to better transition from Origin of Love to Sugar Daddy. The order of the songs on the movie soundtrack were also rearranged to "flow" like a real rock album as opposed to a cast recording.
just seems odd they included it in the OOBCR but its not in the revival, but Lena did it at an event.
Not really. When SPELLING BEE was open, they usually performed "Why We Like Spelling" at events, which was not used in the show.
In HEDWIG, Yitzhak doesn't really get a full song, if I recall correctly -- at least not a song that makes for a good performance out of context. NPH probably does not want to do events like this, which means they send Lena instead, and if she doesn't have a song in the show, what else is she going to sing?

Not to go off topic, but it is somewhat relavent...
Have you noticed that until the Tony Awards show on TV, there have been no production numbers from Hedwig performed on any talk shows? Is it possible they had Lena do Random Number Generation as it is NOT in the show? This gives them a taste of the show, but something that is not actually in the show.
I saw NPH interviewed for the Tonys and he noted that the awards show will be the first time outside of the Belasco Theater that Hedwig will be seen and heard. It is almost like the producers do not want to saturate the internet with one off videos of the songs in the show (althuogh I did find what appears to be a full length video on Youtube of the original off-Bway JCM Hedwig - OH BOY).
I figured it was more about the element of surprise, wasn't it? I know I was disappointed that they kept revealing more of the costume changes in stills before I got to see it. Luckily, several of the big changes were kept under wraps longer.
