Do you think Julie Harris should’ve been honored with a special tribute at the Tonys?

I’m not a fan of what they did at the Emmys last year, when they honored 5 or 6 people with a special tribute during the telecast (the whole show felt almost like a memorial and they still managed to snub some true TV giants like Jack Klugman and Larry Hagman).

However, to me the awards shows are not only about awarding the excellence of the current season or some flashy musical numbers, it’s also an opportunity to honor and acknowledge past achievements. Lifetime Achievement Awards are often the highlights of the show and In Memoriam segment is a beautiful and dignified way of honoring those who have contributed to the industry over their lifetime. Both are now off the main telecast, sadly.

Julie Harris, in particular, deserves a special mention. She was not only one of the greatest actresses in the history of Broadway, but also the most decorated performer in the history of Tonys.

"but also the most decorated performer in the history of Tonys."

Five-time Tony Winner Angela Lansbury begs to differ, but she's too gracious to say anything about it.

I think that an In Memorium segment should be presented, but I don't think that any one person should be singled out.

The problem (especially at the Emmys) is that all the actors and famous directors get recognized and everyone else is just nodded too. I still believe that Cory Monteith should not have been singled out because he wasn't distinguished enough for the attention.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Of course they both have 5 competitive Tony Awards, but Ms. Harris also had a Lifetime Achievement Tony Award, which makes it 6.

Agree about Cory Monteith. It was a tragic death, but hasn't contributed enough to warrant the honor.

Also Julie Harris is still the only one with five lead Tonys. Angela has 4 and Audra only has two in the lead category.

It would have been classy to have a Julie Harris tribute. Hence such a tribute could not have happened on the show.
