I wonder how much longer Rock of Ages has left. I didn't realize the grosses have been so low. Also, I suppose Once won't see 2015.

Poor Rocky. I hope the Tonys help a bit.

Yeah, ONCE looks like a safe bet to pack up shop this January at this point. And still, what a great run they'll have had if they do.

MOTHERS AND SONS surely will close without opening another block of tickets. I'm curious how long for Broadway CHICAGO is, grossing even less by potential than ROCK OF AGES. I know that show's damn cheap but it's legs have to be wearing out sometime (like those of the longest-serving members of that ensemble.)

And does anyone else think the money at this point has to be wagered *against* CINDERELLA closing in January in time for CamMack to bring SAIGON over to it's old stomping grounds in the Spring? That seems almost too likely.

Chicago is only 5 months away from becoming the second longest running Broadway musical in history behind Phantom. As cheap as the Weisslers are, and despite losing some money every week (they must have made hundreds of millions in profits), they will make sure that their baby surpasses the piece of dreck Cats and bring glory back to America! And it will certainly bring the show more publicity once it does. It is a classic show and is the quintessential NY show.

Once is definitely bleeding money at this point. Kazee commented during their pre-Tony publicity circut they were losing money /barely surviving until the nominations came out and they were in the mid 500k back then. For a small show with no pit, it has deceptively high running costs. The cast doing double duty is paid very handsomely and having a working bar on stage is aslo very expensive for insurance purposes. Its also a show you can stunt cast easlily.

Rock of Ages must also be bleeding money at this point especially when you consider it took the show over 5 years to recoup. In all honesty if Spiderman stayed open it might have recouped faster. Unless they finally got the royalties reduced it should be gone come September. For a show that screams stunt casting and did it much earlier in their run at the Brooks I don't think they can even get a C- lister. After all , no matter who they get, theyd have to be willing to share a dressing room with several people, which is a probably a deal breaker for anyone they approach.

Cinderella's still making money its nut is in the mid 600k. It will probably be gone sometime in 2015 though, whether that is January or September is dependent on how it sells this summer when Fran leaves.

Rocky and Bullets probably won't see 2015 or even the Fall. Bullets needs to redo do its marketig and put Braff front and center. He may not cause the show to sell out, but his face will defintly sell more tickets than they are currenlty selling, allowing them to close at the end of his contract at a partial loss instead of a total loss.

Rocky just needs to hope Word of mouth and advertising finally pays off.

And Roundabout is no longer allowed to complain about not having money. Not only are both Violet ans Cabaret grossing numbers that would make a commercial producer happy, they will be making a pretty penny off of Beautiful for quite some time.

Lastly, Holler if ya gonna win a Tony become the laughing stock of Broadway with one of Broadway biggest flops in the same month, Mister Kenny Leon!!

Typically, yes. Especially for the big winners, although the awards were very spread out this year. I would expect GG to have the biggest bump.

Rock of Ages is on its last legs as is Once. Chicago will likely continue to try and secure the second longest running show in Broadway history, unless grosses fall further, they'll probably try and hit the 20 year mark.

I don't see Once staying open past Labor Day. It's had a solid run and will likely finish with 1,000+ performances. Unless they have a "name" in the works for the Fall, it'll be gone by September.

Josh Groban had some interest in playing the lead, that would get butts in the seats for sure. I think he would be great in the part, but it probably won't happen.

I don't think Josh Groban would consider being a replacement unless its a highly prestigious iconic role, more like Hedwig, Tevye, Harold Hill, or even Jean Valjean and the Phantom, and not Guy. Please note I am not saying I could picture Groban in in any of those roles, I am just giving examples of iconic roles that a man of his stature would want to play so badly that he would consider being a replacement, akin to Bernadette Peters taking over for Catharine Zeta-Jones because rule role is iconic. He may not be a traditional household name, but he is among the wealthier social circles, aka the ones who will buy premium tickets. Thus producers will treat him accordingly.

It is difficult to fathom Broadway without "Chicago." I think "Chicago" reminds me of the Eveready Bunny..it keeps going and going and going. I sincerely hope the show continues for a longer time. P.S. Thank you DAME for that kind comment.

Based on the productions they have announced in the pipeline, Roundabout will spend about a year or so in purely commercial mode to sweeten the pot and, frankly, there's something to that: I want to see nearly every moneygrab they have lined up.

My heart breaks for Once. It is such a moving show that is deserving of much more of a run than it is likely to get. Would love to see them cast a name who could do the show justice and completely revamp the marketing to make it fresher. The Josh Groban idea is very intriguing. Kristen Bell or Emily Blunt could both make for inspired Girls.

There is absolutely no shame in a healthy, financially successful, critically acclaimed, award-winning production closing after it's time has passed. I personally would much rather ONCE gracefully close and drift off into the Dublin sunset than cheapen itself with inappropriate stunt casting for the purpose of cashing in on quick bucks. One of the most endearing things about ONCE when it opened was its relative lack of star-wattage that sold the show as being genuine, pure at heart, and home-grown in an intimate way. ONCE as a show does not strike me as fodder for much stunt casting (especially since your stars need to be consummate musicians as well.)

Actually I polled most people, and that is in fact what they said. Haterobics' comment right after mine couldn't have proved my point any better. I realize you are the board's chief Chicago cheerleader and believe it should run forever. If that's what floats your boat, more power to you. I think the excitement over Chicago faded a long time ago for most others (according to my polling results).
