As we "officially" bid this season farewell with the Tonys this weekend and the first show of next season begins previews, I thought it would be fun to start a thread where we discuss the shows we most want to come in next season and/or the already-announced shows we're most looking forward to!
For me, I'm most looking forward to On The Twentieth Century and The King and I (with the hope that Kelli O'Hara stars).
As far as what I hope comes in, DAMES AT SEA WITH LAURA OSNES AND RACHEL YORK!! Also, I hope Finding Neverland makes a transfer with the just-announced cast!
I have been so disappointed with the good shows this year that got crapped on by the critics, I no longer hold out hope for any upcoming season. We see the shows before the critics get to them or before they close.
I hope we actually get good theater and not trash like Big Fish. Hoping for a few pleasant surprises (like Gentleman's Guide was this year). I'm really looking forward to the revivals!
I hope we get a brand new musical that closes after opening night. I also hope we get a new musical that has so many problems that it postpones it's opening night date at least 8 times. In addition, I hope that we get a play that stars an extremely famous movie star that has own at least one academy award for acting, but since they're that famous, everyone will say what a horrible actor they are.
Agree with Mr Roxy, Big Fish had a lot of issues but I found much of it beautiful and was really moved at the end. I'm looking forward to The Real Thing this season. It's my favorite play, and it has the sentiment factor of Cynthia Nixon going back to play the mother of the character she played in the Broadway original.
I hope for more American work original American work that is good and well written. I think Idina was very brave for choosing if then she believes in new works and that's something to celebrate. I am hoping for Here Lies Love and Fun Home to transfer. I think that the Public Theatre does not get the attention it deserves. I also hope On the 20th extends into summer. Anything with Mr Rylance and anything with Laura Osnes. Also anything with Ms Redgrave and Ms Lansbury both national treasures.
And guess what Roxy, this thread was asking what OUR hopes were, obviously implying opinion. Anything posted here is an opinion, so its pointless to bring it up. It goes both ways, loving it is your opinion-nothing more, nothing less.
I hope that Fun Home transfers, the announced On the Town revival actually happens and is a glorious as it sounds, and Finding Neverland comes with the announced cast. I am also looking forward to the Keli vs Kristin tony race with Keli finally winning.
With revivals of TWENTIETH CENTURY, KING AND I, ON THE TOWN, and maybe DAMES AT SEA, I'm very excited! Besides FUN HOME and FINDING NEVERLAND, what other non-revivals are potentially coming in?
"I saw Pavarotti play Rodolfo on stage and with his girth I thought he was about to eat the whole table at the Cafe Momus." - Dollypop
Don't know if Miss Saigon could come in for next season, so another potential revival. The Funny Thing That Happened On The Way to the Fourm is another revival. Can Can at Papermill is being advertised as a Pre Broadway Premier. New works that have been rumored are Bodyguard, Honeymoon in Vegas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (is it coming over?), and possibly Bull Durham. The Last Ship is coming this fall.
I hope After Midnight does not close I think it should win best musical. I can see tickets being sold for that easily. High tourist appeal, huge demographic and easy to follow because of no book.
- Kelli O'Hara to finally win her Tony, presumably for The King and I
- Ever After possibly (hopefully) transferring? (Although that might be happening too late)
- Possibly Finding Neverland, though everything about it is making me nervous right now.
Also, Christian Borle did a reading for FN years ago with Kelli O'Hara, but I don't think he's been involved in the show for years. Brian d'Arcy James and Matt Morrison have done the most recent readings/workshops.
