"Well they would probably be changed if they were in mental recovery programs."

Son, you don't know anything about that topic.

Unless you are "hunting" with one of these:

...any argument from gun nuts that tries to state what our forefathers meant by "right to bear arms" is invalid.
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."

Sorry, Jordan, but I'm not sure what about my desire for stricter gun control and mental health reform makes me a "right wing nut." But THANKS anyway!

Yeah, Jane, you're right. I shoot for sport, not hunt.

Headband, don't we already have background checks in place? I know there are loopholes regarding transfer of ownership, etc.

I see both sides to the background check issue. For me, it's frustrating that we have to jump through hoops to exercise a right.

So, Jordan, I'm not wanted on this entire board because my opinions on gun control are different from the majority of the posters? Glad to know that that affects my opinions and enjoyment of Broadway.

I don't agree with anything kade has said on the topic, but he's polite and respectful. And he's welcome to his opinions, as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you, Reginald. That means much more to me than mine, your, or anyone's opinion on gun control.

Polite and respectful is fine. But he's still (if he's not just our rotating right wing troll) one of the f'in gun nut that's absolutely helping to ruin this country and make it unsafe for every person living here.

It's like me saying
"Hi, everyone. Thank you for letting me speak. I hope everyone is having a good day. As a white man, I believe that black, brown and yellow people should all be given tickets to return to their countries of origin. It would be very nice to have a pure race living in America again. Jewish citizens can return to Israel and Muslims can go to where Muslims come from and then we will all be happy. I thank you for your time."

I may have said it politely but it's still fvckin' crazy.

Unfortunately, it happens everywhere. We have our own gun nuts. Still, a part of me wonders if something like this would even make to national news in the US anymore.

For me, it's frustrating that we have to jump through hoops to exercise a right.

Then you must be severely frustrated all the time.

So, how many land mines, rocket launchers and hand grenades do you own? Conservative rhetoric proves that the banning of any and all arms to private citizens is unconstitutional, so you must have some you purchased at Wal-Mart, right?

If I hear that damn, pitiful "gun laws won't stop criminals from getting guns" excuse one more time I'm gonna hurl.
According to that logic, we shouldn't have laws in general.
And the reason that the fiasco up in Canada is making headlines is the same reason that the mass shooting in Norway made a huge splash. They don't happen in those countries. Here in America though, its every day life.

Times have changed drastically in the last 230 years. I personally believe that amendment should be changed so that you no longer have that "right."

See Jane, that is where we are getting the extreme fight from the Gun Lovers. What you just expressed is EXACTLY what they are fighting against. They see any form ofregulation as the government wanting to take their guns away.
I am not a fan of guns, grew up with them around me. Actually had to get rid of the 12 various rifles and shot guns my dad had after he passed One was freaking loaded and went off blowing a hole in my Condo wal as it was being unpacked! Living in NYC I don't see the need for a gun, I am sure if I lived out in Rural USA I might feel different.
What these Gun Toters are saying is, "We want to be able to arm ourselves against the government if need be." Problem is Government has nukes, drones that would be no match for a Kade.Ivy with an AK-47.

SNAFU, I know I'm being totally radical on my side of this topic. That's how much I'm against regular citizens having guns. at all! Get this - I'm even against people having guns to hunt. And I don't even see why shooting should be considered a sport at all. What's so fabulous about shooting something that easily kills?

Jane, that means only the government would have guns at their beck and call. Government is NOT out for the good of the people but out for the good of the corporations that line their pockets. Oh dear lord, you got me sounding like a Right Wing paranoid gun nut. There has to be an equal balance, a set of regulations including psych evals put into place when issuing gun permits. THAT is not much to ask.

ETA: OK time to reimagine Michelangelo's David with an assault rifle slung over his back.... bet Kade.Ivy is a little wet in the crotch over that image!

SNAFU-Well, I do think it's important for cops to have guns. And as far as mental evals go, you can't determine much from a test. In fact, the mentally ill are highly skilled at knowing how to fool even the best shrinks.

Jane, having a brother who committed suicide by self emmolation the day after being released from a VA psych ward because they deemed him no harm to himself, I know psych evals are NOT always accurate. But if they stop ONE person from going on a murder spree, would it not be worth it?

The entire program has to be re-evaluated. I don't speak from much experience, but my step-brother was diagnosed as dangerously autistic--and he has been on meds that for the past ten years have kept him very functional. He lives at a care facility (which is mainly filled with senior citizens which kinda bores him--but that's another discussion) but comes back to my step-father and mom's place on weekends, and looks after their pets when they are away. When he was first arrested for accosting a man on the bus, NOBODY thought this would change as much as it has.

SNAFU--I am so sorry to hear about your brother.

SNAFU - Oh sure, I agree they should try their best. Yes.

Like you, my sibling lived a life in and out of mental institutions. Our family had to learn a lot about mental illness because we had to. She died a year ago.
