Hey Rob - new feature request: Thread Subscriptions

Hey Rob Shining Bright Like a Diamond! As always, thank you for building this wonderful home on the web for misfits and troublemakers. You've been kind enough to listen to - and in some cases - implement our feature requests for the messageboard. Perhaps you'll consider another one: thread subscriptions.

A pretty standard feature on many messageboards online. Why would anyone want such a feature? Well, as I'm sure your accountant can tell you, BWW receives a great deal of traffic and there are dozens of new threads started every week - sometimes every day. It can sometimes be difficult to keep track of all the threads one wishes to check back in on.

Now, I know what you're going to say: just visit your user profile and you'll see a list of the most recent threads you started or posted in. That's true, but there's a reason this functionality is somewhat limiting: 1). it has a pretty limited short-term history; 2). it will only list threads that you've actually posted in.

There are going to be those days in which you're busy working all day and out at the discothèque all night -- not having a chance to check BWW until 3am. Perhaps someone started a thread on Carol Channing's new wig line on QVC that very morning. A topic you're very interested in, but by the time you read through the thread, 4 people have already said what you were going to, so you don't contribute a new post regurgitating the same thing 4 other people have already said. BUT, you'd still like to follow this discussion moving forward. Being able to subscribe to that thread would make this possible.

One would then have the option to view all new threads or - if in a rush - just see threads one has subscribed to. To make it easier for folks, many messageboards will automatically subscribe you to any thread you post in, but also give you an option to manually subscribe/unsubscribe to any other thread.

Cheers!

Wait. Has this feature always existed? How have I missed it??? I just saw it at the top of another thread. Okay, clearly, I'm an idiot. Pay no attention. Move right along, feel free to delete.

EDITED TO SAY:
Oh, the 'subscribe' option is to receive email alerts everytime your thread receives another post. That would be far too frequent on a busy thread. So, I guess my request actually stands because I'm talking about an all-inclusive feature by which one could access all subscribed threads on the site.
