I already have plans to see it Monday so am trying to avoid spoilers, but the only complaint I've heard is that people not familiar at least with the previous movies will be hopelessly lost. In an era where every single superhero sequel seems to feel the need to go over origins, etc, endlessly, I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

I have seen this at the 10:30 time on Thursday, and I really enjoyed this movie. Personally for me, it's better crafted than First Class (which was good), the ending was really satisfying and I'm glad that this, and Godzilla got the bitter taste of the really bad Amazing Spider-Man 2 out of my mouth this May.

Saw this with friends yesterday in a packed house. There were a few cheers, and a lot of laughs.

My favorite scene is the one where that one guy does that one thing in that one room right after they do that one thing with that one guy... you know which one I'm talking about! Cutting edge technology there! I'd be quick about seeing the movie again just to watch that one scene.

I've never read the comics, so my boyfriend had to fill me in on the details from the original source material and stuff they changed/added to this.

One last thing... I thought all of the actors did a great job, except for Jennifer Lawrence. I'm a huge fan of hers, but I feel like she phoned this performance in. I've seen her do much better work.

Not a devout fan of the franchise-- I think I only caught 2 previous X-men films. But this was a genuine winner all around. The ginormous cast of characters was coherent even for me (although true fans will have more to enjoy in the final 5 minutes of the story than I did). But a totally satisfying sendup of Superheroes, current events of 1973, persecuted minorities metaphors (which has always been X-Men's strongest suit) and cool action sequences.

One brilliant sequence with Quicksilver set to the a Jim Crocce soundtrack was the most blissfully enjoyable 3 minutes I've had in a movie theater in years.

For once the hype is deserved.

I have definitely not seen all 137 XMen and XMen origin or XMen reboots. But I let the Entertainment Industrial Complex have its way and went to see this.

I enjoyed what the CGI did to Hugh's bod. And that he showed us another side of himself. I liked the first 2/3 of the movie, but as is so often the case, the final reel (do they even have reels anymore?) was just a jumbled and cacophonous mess. But it's what they make the kids want and continue to give it to them again and again. I loved that Halle Berry had exactly one line and two others that were spoken off screen. Who says there are no great parts for women of color who have won Oscars?

Storm IS a great part, but one that Ms. Berry, unfortunately, does not know how to play. With her little dialog and screen time she miraculously captured the presence that the character should have. It only took her 4 films and 14 years!

I still think a Storm spin-off movie would be amazing!! Storm has a deep past, and if played by the right actress, they'd have another success.

Halle Berry is such a terrible actress, her Storm is so uninspired. Imagine Viola Davis as Storm, now that'd be something!

Wasn't Angela Bassett tossed around as playing the role back when the first movie came out? But then Fox made it clear they would work with a tiny (for the genre) budget, since this was in that oh-so-brief era after Batman and Robin where studios were worried about superhero movies and so they couldn't afford any real names and cast with unknowns, theatre vets and, well, models. Which mostly worked... But Berry (and her wigs, which seem to somehow get worse as the movie budgets soar) is just woefully miscast. Storm is meant to be such a massive *presence* even as someone of few words... At least someone told her to stop trying the "Afrikaan" accent she is shown attempting in the deleted scenes from the first movie.

Seeing it tonight, so can't comment, but I will say I agree with Namo that when it comes to these movies (not just superhero movies but most action blockbusters) the third act of the movie always kinda bores me--those 25-30 minute fight scenes. Blah.

But, does the film pass the Bechdel test? :P I only ask because a woman wrote an editorial in the Globe and Mail about how she wishes there was a blockbuster movie she could take her preteen daughter to this Summer and listed all the ones with zero major female characters--but didn't mention X-Men.

Eric, one of my big issues with the movie is how much they focused on the male players, whereas the original films had a pretty good mix. While Kitty Pride plays a key role, and Storm is around, the main focus is on Raven/Mystique, but there are no other females with interesting parts in the entire movie. It's quite unfortunate. I thought the movie overall was good with some parts being a little dull, apart from the scene mentioned here, there was not an action sequence that I found particularly breathtaking or memorable.

That is too bad--ever since it's 1975 reboot, the comic has had a (mostly well deserved) reputation for the equal use of strong female characters as have the films (though Ratner's awful take on the Dark Pheonix story in X3 did seem to diminish the female roles as well, or at least their sense of agency--even Mystique became a vengeful jilted girlfriend.)

Really enjoyed this film. I do agree that the female mutants were mostly underused since Raven/Mystique was the main focus, but it did not bother me a whole lot. The ending certainly helped correct the mistakes made in 'X-Men: The Last Stand', but it will leave fans wondering about the future of a relationship. McAvoy really brought a side of Professor X that I had never seen before and I am excited to see him, Lawrence, Fassenbender, and Hoult return for 'Apocalypse', which is set in the past.

As a comic geek from the era that most of the movies' mythology is based, I enjoyed DOFP. A bit of a cheat using STAR TREK's time-travel to allow reboot/reintroduction of characters but it's a good movie.

Geek films will rule at next year's Oscars....NOT.

I went back to see this last night and it's still a very well-done film. Jennifer Lawrence's performance was even better than I remembered. The only problem was that a couple of moms brought some toddlers to the film, which was really dumb since there is nudity and the "f-word" in it. Those moms were clearly not the sharpest tools in the shed.

I don't think Marvel would let Zoe leave Gaurdians of The Galaxy to give Sony more money as the new Storm. I have to imagine some new comers or younger hollywood will have to fill those shoes.
