Further clarification on this story:

All students are safe. The shooting took place OUTSIDE of the actual school. It was a drive by shooting.

Police sources say a preliminary investigation reveals a suspect in a U-Haul fired at the victim shortly after 9 a.m. outside of P.S. 112 on Schieffelin Avenue in Edenwald and then drove off.

The suspect abandoned the truck a few blocks away and witnesses told authorities the suspect fled on foot, police said.

Students were ordered to shelter in place as a precaution after the shooting, according to the Department of Education.

The man believed to be in his 20s was shot in the head outside P.S. 112 on E. 229th St. and Schieffelin Ave. in Bronxwood after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. He died at the scene and the gunman is still on the loose.
