Is there anyone that doesn't like Meet Me In St. Louis? Judy was in her prime and Vincente Minnelli knew how to make her look great. The songs are perfect, the casting top notch, there's not a wasted moment or a mis-step in the movie.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Saw the show years ago and it deserved a better fate than it got.

I can't believe it took Goth three days to come up with this. The way he invokes Judy Garland in thread after thread, I'm surprised this thread didn't come sooner.

You old queens and your Judy.

Since Goth and I have been at odds of late, I want to say I am totally in agreement with him here.

And FTR, some of us "old queens" (I just turned 60) didn't even know who Judy Garland was--except "that girl from THE WIZARD OF OZ"--until after she was dead.

What fate did this classic movie musical get?

Thanks for asking, Regi. I'm wondering, too. Seems to me the film is widely considered one of the best film musicals of all time.

Roxy is saying that the stage version received a fate it did not deserve.

Goth is just expressing his love for Judy Garland.

Thanks, PJ. I didn't see the stage version, but I can imagine it being problematic. The film's episodic structure is better suited to cinema (where the camera provides the "unity") than stage.

The stage version is not bad. It just has much to live up to and requires a skilled director. THE Broadway production was also put into that awful barn we now know as the Gershwin.

It's a great movie. In lesser hands, it might have been cloying and insipid. Instead, we got real wit, sparkling individuality of character, and genuine love and tenderness.
