And you need some proper topic starting etiquette. It starts with a link to the story.
"Hi there, we represent The Broadway Better Business Players for a Better Tomorrow. We're trying to start a petition to get second rate shows taken off the marquee and with your help we can stop Mamma Mia from ever playing again." -Brad Jones in Suburban Knights

"Is it true you have Ralph Jr at the bottom of your purse in a jar of formaldehyde?" - Felicia
"No, but I wish I did so I could shove it down your throat!" - Bernadette

"This play is sh*t! This play is sh*t! F*CK YOU TERRENCE MCNALLY!!"- Patti LuPone as an angry theatre goer at 'Master Class'

Kind of hard to post a link to something I just saw watching TV

How is that for etiquette?

Yes I do not post links. Even if I did I just saw this on TV as Breaking News. This means it may not yet be on their website. I can not believe I am explaining myself to you. If my posts bother you, do not read them.

So wait a minute -- since when are cops giving tickets to people on bikes riding the wrong way?

The article makes it sound as if not carrying identification papers is a crime.
It's a little creepy but it would be worse if you knew what you were talking about.

I didn't even know who we were talking about until BlueMoon shared the link.

Actually, carrying ID is necessary. You can get a ticket in SF for not having ID.

In New York, you are not required to carry ID, and you don’t have to show ID to a police officer. If you are issued a summons or arrested, however, and you refuse to produce ID or tell officers who you are, the police may detain you until you can be positively identified.

Couldn't the paps ID the perp? They have a bigger boner for him than even Roxy does.

He was not arrested for failing to show ID. He was issued a summons for breaking a city bike law and then arrested for disorderly conduct. But, either way, the excerpt written above is incorrect. Per the IBT:

Cops can arrest someone for failing to present them with a valid form of identification. They’re called “identify” laws, and about two dozen states have them, including New York.

The laws require anyone who is asked to identify themselves to police officers to do just that. According to The Atlantic, identify laws have similar roots to New York’s divisive stop-and-frisk policy.

I'm afraid I don't see a contradiction with what I said, Liza's. I knew he wasn't arrested for failing to show ID; someone else had suggested that. And your link doesn't indicate that that would be a crime; just that someone can be detained until ID can be made.

But lord knows I'm not a lawyer; maybe one of our legal friends can weigh in.

I reread the original post and then your response. I see now, Reg. Thanks for pointing that out.

"In New York, you are not required to carry ID, and you don’t have to show ID to a police officer."

that has not been my experience. I was once pulled over by a cop. He asked for ID, I didn't have any. He said everyone is required to carry ID in NY. He let me get away with it though.

Sort of hard to believe the cops didn't know who he was. I don't have much sympathy for the guy but I suspect he is an easy target and a lot of fun to poke like my crazy Uncle Lou.

Most places and institutions require ID unless you're voting. People long dead can vote.

I am not a big fan of having to present papers to the authorities on demand. Is this a leftover from Giuliani Time?
