Was about to post this. Was getting worried as it was so late. But this is a good fit. Stays in Missouri, has a support system, has a great coach to mentor him. The NFL dodged a bullet had he not been picked.
This makes me happy. Now, if the Rams only moved back to L.A. where they belong, I'll be even happier.

The Rams are now my 2nd favorite team. I hope Sam has a phenomenal rookie year. I look forward to the day when things like this aren't "news", but one step at a time.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Now, they probably should not have moved out of LA in the first place but the fact they are located in Missouri and therefore full of Mizzou fans definitely helps quell any negative reaction to the pick. Picking the local kid who was well-liked and productive in college is definitely something the Rams can do in Round 7.
Don't get me wrong, I totally agree that given Sam's college background, him going to the Rams is a very great move. However, my feeling that the Rams should move back to LA have always been there since before Sam was a blip on anyone's radar screen.
I just want to say that it's great that Sam was drafted. However, we're not out of the woods quite yet. There is still a chance (and, for the record, I hope this isn't the case) that Sam might not make the final cut. Only time will tell. There is training camp and pre season still to come. All teams have to have an official 53 man roster by opening day. At this point in time all teams have more than 53 players and as the practices and pre season starts and the opening day of the season draw closer, they cut players. I just hope to God that Sam gets to be on the roster opening day.

So grateful for Andrew "power glutes" Sullivan and HR. "Auntie Toms" C for inserting themselves into this story as if they had anything to do with this story at any point ever.
YOu also have to hope that Sam DESERVES to be on that roster. There are lots of great college players that cannot hold their own against the pros.
IF he gets cut, no one can assume it has anything to do with his being out. Of course, that's all anyone will talk about.
Here's my hope: that regardless of the final outcome, that HE is able to tell us the truth about how he is treated, by the organization and the team.

**sigh** Winston explaining sports is the funnest.
There is always a chance the NFL playing career of any given player is numbered. But, if you heard Jeff Fisher going out of his way to speak to media about the pick, I am really doubting likelihood of that.
A Dolphins player, guessing that guy was on Richie Incognito's side in the locker room, got fined and suspended by the team for making homophobic tweets. There was also Case McCoy, brother of Colt, who vaguely tweeted, 'I don't want to see this', when ESPN showed Sam kiss his boyfriend. Aside from bombing at the Texas Longhorns Quarterback spot and seemingly getting to play Division I college football due to nepotism, what else is Case McCoy best known for? Oh, once being a suspected rapist.
I can't believe how dumb it is when there was a first round pick in Taylor Lewan who was also suspected to be in a rape cover-up and nobody talks about it- it did not hurt his draft stock at all. Nobody called it a distraction. Nobody in the locker room is apparently going to have an issue with it. Yet Michael Sam, with a spotless record is apparently the distraction and who he really is gets spoken in negative terms.
Andrew Sullivan's recent obsession with testosterone, masculinity and gay voice (all things that have been present before) is such a terrifying window into the bottomless pit of self-hatred that it's hard to look away.
Back on topic:
YAY. Gays can get terrible brain damage and lose their humanity at the altar of sports. We win!(?)
I love that homophobic tweeters were still somehow ID'ing Sam's boyfriend as a twink. They know the lingo of something they hate? Anyway, Michael just looks enormous that any non-football player looks smaller in comparison. Vito looks pretty well-built.
