Yes, love the guy, and he was great (though not - RANT! - as great as Angus Wright).

I was rather enamored with Orsino, Laim Brennan, and would be happy to bestow my alternative award, the Blony, upon him

Interesting fact: it's Stephen Fry's second nomination. He was Tony-nominated for his book for the 80s Me and My Girl.

^^^ The More You Know!

I just noticed I spelled Liam and Laim.

Great. Now he'll never accept my Blony Award.

Are you legally allowed to bestow a Blony if the fellow gives you a nony?

I am a big fan of Stephen Fry's work and I'm so glad he received a TONY nomination! Twelfth Night was one of the best shows I have ever seen!

I certainly congratulate Mr. Fry on his nomination. However, I did think he was badly directed in this production. I guess I'm a minority of one on this, but I felt his Malvolio was clearly the most sensible, sanest person on that stage. There seemed to be no real reason for the dislike everybody evinced for him. I have seen productions of TN where Malvolio was a truly awful person, yet you still felt a degree of sympathy for him at the play's conclusion. In this production he was not an awful person at all and I didn't feel much of anything when he stalked off. Still, congrats to Stephen Fry and especially to Samuel Barnett who was a truly amazing Viola.

Interesting. He was sensible but I don't see Malvolio as being insensible. Quite the contrary. Sensibility is Malvolio's god. That's why making him a fool is so pleasurable. I also don't see him as having to be an awful person. I see him as intolerably priggish and incensing to the rest of the household. And Fry was certainly all of that.

I'm finding your critique a paradox. It is precisely the fact that Malvolio isn't such an awful person that makes his self-delusion and downfall inspire compassion and the audience care when he exits.

"Are you legally allowed to bestow a Blony if the fellow gives you a bony?"

Absolutely not. Nony means nony.

And I thought Malvolio's revenge warning was simultaneously more chilling and reasonable.
