As a child of the 80's this pleases me. Jem was a favorite of mine and I had several of the dolls as well as the board game. I thought the "audition" video linked in the article was great and I loved that they used songs from the show.

I hope the movie is as LSD-influenced as the show.

This has such potential to be a total stoner movie. I hope they get the camp value.

And just to throw gasoline on the fire they're making a Barbie movie too.

....but the world goes 'round

Oh, please let it be NOTHING like the Josie and the Pussycats movie.

See, I liked the tongue-in-cheek nature of Josie & The Pussycats and I thought they cast the three band members well

I'm sure most of you know this already but Diablo Cody is writing a Sweet Valley High musical movie. What else can we get into development? The Girl Talk book series? Sleepover Friends?

I'm still waiting for Jerry Spinelli's "Pickle" series to get its big-screen reboot... although apparently Disney's old cartoon "The Weekenders" was allegedly loosely based on the property but re-set in California, so there's that.

Oh, late-Eighties early-Nineties nostalgia.

This has been all over my facebook wall (don't judge...) Someone wrote that the team behind it is largely behind the GI Joe movies, which makes me less than excited. As awful as the Scooby Do movies were, I'd rather something like that with in-jokes and camp than them trying to play it, ahem, straight. (I mean the Rio HAS to have purple hair, right?)

My sister used to have a cassette with the songs--we might as well as get at least a cover of the title song, but it probably will be a faux punk version... sigh.

The Teletoon Retro network here in Canada airs it late at nights--I forgot how terrifying as a child the episode where one of the orphans gets hooked on LSD and tries to fly was to me (to this day LSD is probably one of the few drugs I haven't tried, so I suppose it worked :P ) and also how confusing--I mean the show is about a woman who tricks people with visions, right?

"Oh, please let it be NOTHING like the Josie and the Pussycats movie."

An underrated film? All films should hope such a delightful presence as Parker Posey.

I'm still shocked that aside from an unwatchable Riverdale in the Future TV film there is no Archie Comics movie. Then again, my idea of an Archie film would go and be received exactly like the Josie and The Pussycats.

This is furthest from YA, but not really because it is a really erudite version of a lot YA trappings, I am dreading/intrigued by the notion of somebody ever adapting Donna Tartt's The Secret History. Somebody will want a movie and I'll be screaming from the hills that it should be a mini-series.
