Five dollars to cover a background check?

Folks, this is what is known as “a scam.” You will be offered many such opportunities at career onset, but if you know the red flags, you’ll be able to avoid them.

RED FLAG #1: If an audition, agent or casting director asks for money, it’s a scam. It’s also a scam if any agent or casting director offers a “publicity package,” where you pay hundreds for head shots, resumes, training or anything else. Agents make money when YOU make money. Casting directors are paid by the production, not by actors. And productions that need money from actors are not the kind of productions you wish to be apart.


Let’s see, if 1000 people show up (to get their big break in Dallas!), this company makes five grand? Not a bad day at the office for merely collecting resumes.

Scam, fraud or a job so low-end it is to be avoided.
