Audition Songs Advice!

Hi, my friend is in the process of applying for drama schools in England for the second time now (and no, this genuinely is my friend). Although she wants do straight acting, quite a few of the schools have asked her to sing something too. She has had no real formal training in singing but I don't think they are expecting that she should have. Last year she did a foundation course in acting and her coach advised her to sing Funny Honey from Chicago. She performed it for me and I think she was far too focused on singing it nicely that she didn't really perform it well at all, all she did was random hand movements. She wants to sing it again this year because its the only song she's been taught to do.

Now I don't have any experience with the audition process, all I know is probably what I've learnt from Smash and Submissions Only. But shouldn't she try a song that's more character driven, that isn't so demanding vocally? Or would they not care about how its performed and more just look for her vocal ability? Does anyone have any advice on what to do or suggestions for other songs for her to audition with? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
