I thought the whole production was very well done. The best sets I've seen in a MUSKET show since Man of La Mancha. The biggest disappointment for me was the soprano in Brotherhood of Men was too weak to cut through the chorus. Much better sets and costumes than The Dolphin Show did with Shrek (although their dragon was great).
I saw the Friday show and I thought the drag role was a great addition. I agree about the soprano not being up to the song, but all in all, it was a really good show. Looking forward to the MUSKET production of Little Shop of Horrors in June.
"Mr Sondheim, look: I made a hat, where there never was a hat, it's a Latin hat at that!"
Having just finished working on H2$ not too long ago, I find this casting of Hedy to be very interesting indeed. If done well, I think it could really add a unique element to the production.
I do think, however, it's a shame to give such a great female role to a male in such a male heavy show. There are only five (named) female characters, so it seems silly to give one away to a male (unless you're living in another dimension where there are more talented guys than girls). With that said, a drag Ms. Jones would also be an interesting choice.
..we also considered making Wally Womper (the chairman of the board) a female playing a male... or just a female... almost in spite of the whole male domination era. We chickened out though, and just stuck with a guy haha
