Anyone managed to get along to see the new Betty Blue Eyes production at the Mercury Theatre yet?
Was just wondering if it's worth seeing, I adored the original Novello production and saw that this production had been transformed quite a bit, was wondering what people were thinking of it! I heard if they do well enough with the fringe theatres they're considering a full out UK tour, but it all depends. I always said that it would do a fantastic UK tour, the British public would love it, it's incredibly relatable for an older UK audience.
2014 Shows:
Cats (Tour) ***, Book of Mormon *****, Matilda (x2) *****, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (x3) ****, Stephen Ward (x2) ***, Happy Days (Tour) ***, I Can't Sing ****, Mamma Mia ***, Urinetown (x2) *****, Wicked *****
From what I can hear in the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gyFMk9cB9Q), it sounds like they've not changed much orchestrally, so I'd imagine the same track list as the OLC.

as someone who liked the music and script (but not the West end production) this looks considerably more interesting and inventive! Just a shame about the budget limitations. Think the betty puppet is gorgeous and will actually mean she can be used alot more than in the West End where she was constrained to being on one spot.
Hi, I work at the Mercury and I'm happy to answer any questions - the TripAdvisor response from the audience has been fantastic if you would like to see unsolicited and unbiased audience reviews.

Songlist looks great. I'll keep an open mind about the Joyce casting until I see it. I'm hoping to work it around my Birthday (which will be the last weekend it's in Colchester).
I hope Pig No Pig is the full length.
Once you start to spread it, Baby, if you let it, Love comes right on back to you . . .
Painting by Heart has been replaced with a new song?

This is one of my favourite musicals. Think the book, music and lyrics work very well. There is also a few crackers 'Another Little Victory for Little England' . I only hope that they will do a full tour all around the UK.. I think this show is a real hit!
Show starts at 14:15, so hoping it finish at about 16:30' so that I can catch the 16:47 back, which will get me back in Waterloo at 18:21, which gives me a chance to something in the West End.
I'm not too sure about that unit set. It looks a little cheap and Betty deserves better than that. The new puppet looks cute though and it's far more of a practical theatrical solution than the West End counterpart.
