Geoffrey Owens
Geoffrey Owens recently appeared on Broadway in Romeo and Juliet, starring Orlando Bloom and played 'Henry' in the Chicago premiere of David Mamet's Race at the Goodman Theatre.
Since graduating from Yale in 1983, Geoffrey Owens has worked as an actor, director and teacher in theater, television and film. Stage roles include Romeo, Richard of Gloucester, Othello and Puck at theaters such as New York Shakespeare Festival, Long Wharf Theater, Hartford Stage Company and Williamstown Theater Festival, with directors Joseph Papp, A.J. Antoon, James Lapine, Brian Kulick, Mark Lamos, Joe Dowling, Derek Anson Jones and Estelle Parsons. He recently appeared in Oscar Wilde’s SALOME with Al Pacino, (to be released as a film, SALOMAYBE, directed by Pacino). Films: STONEBROOK (with Seth Green), THE PAPER (directed by Ron Howard), PLAY THE GAME (with Andy Griffith). Television: THE COSBY SHOW, BUILT TO LAST, WITHOUT A TRACE, BOSTON LEGAL, MEDIUM, JOURNEYMAN, IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILDELPHIA, LAS VEGAS, THE WEDDING BELLS, LAW & ORDER, LAW & ORDER SVU, THE GUIDING LIGHT, THAT’S SO RAVEN, THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER and FLASH FORWARD. Mr. Owens has directed staged productions of KING LEAR, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, RICHARD III, AS YOU LIKE IT, THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, and TARTUFFE, one-act plays by Chekhov, OVERRULED by Shaw, Mamet’s AMERICAN BUFFALO, Athol Fugard’s STATEMENTS MADE AFTER AN ARREST UNDER THE IMMORALITY ACT and William Mastrosimone’s TAMER OF HORSES. He recently directed MACBETH for the Circus Theatricals Theatre Company in Los Angeles and co-directed (with Lee M. Cohn) the INSIDE PRIVATE LIVES. Teaching: HB Studio, Yale University, Gene Frankel Studio, and FSU/Asolo Conservatory. Founder and artistic director of The Brooklyn Shakespeare Company and is a recipient of the BACA Brooklyn Bridge Award and the Danny Kaye Award. Studied acting with Uta Hagen, Nikos Psacharopoulos and Austin Pendleton.
