Hi all,

A good friend of mine is creating a proposal in order to begin the process of making a short documentary about "rush" and the experience of it. I don't know any of the details, or if this is for a class or not, but I can find out if anyone is curious. He wants to take a look into not only the world of theatre… but for television (stand-by lines, etc.) and concerts/nightlife (lines forming the morning of or the day before a concert in order to be the first one inside), but I told him I'd make a post on here to ask if anyone has any experiences to share, any information on the evolution/beginning of rush, any sources online that have information he can use for research, and any other information that may help him out.

Thanks, in advanced!

-Matt

I'd check out the Ten Club, aka the Pearl Jam Fan Club, they certainly have that group. It was funny, since their latest tour was a very small GA Pit doled out by lottery, so the people would stand there for hours, and there would be like two rows of them packed against the stage. And everyone else just showed up near show time to be 5 five feet behind them if you wanted. It seemed... pointless. Documentary about the Experience of

Wasn't there a documentary about this subject not too long ago? I swear I remember hearing about it...

Found out a bit more. It is, in fact, only a research project (as of right now) so the information about that documentary would be perfect for his research if anyone has any information about it at all! Thanks!

Hi all! Me again!

My friend has, once again, asked me to post on here to get some reactions from real "rushers;" he's putting together a final project proposal in a few weeks and wants to include anything he can get. Testimonials, best experiences, horror stories, pictures of rush lines/lottery crowds, pictures of rush TICKETS (that specifically say "rush" on them with the price shown), and any and all info anyone is willing to share. Hopefully I can get him some decent material to include in his final proposal, where a panel of "producers" (fellow students) will decide whether or not to fund the film. It may seem silly, but it means a lot to him and I told him I'd help out in this way, so hopefully we can compile a nice little thread for him to use as a resource.

Any thoughts, stories, photos, etc. are appreciated! Thanks again…

BUMP!

Update: My friend has had extremely positive feedback from his research and proposals thus far and has caught the attention of several people who truly believe in this project and may even want to collaborate and contribute so that he can actually shoot this film next year. What started as a class project may become something that he can create that he is so passionate about so anything you all can do helps in his pitch!

One last time… anything anyone is willing to share about their experiences "on the street," or, "rushing," would be an excellent help and contribution to the project proposal. It can be anything from rushing Les Miz, to waiting online for Hedwig SRO, to playing the lottery for If/Then or Kinky Boots… even sitting outside the Roseland Ballroom all day in prep for a concert or waiting outside NBC Studios to get standby tickets to SNL (those are not specific shows he is focusing on, these are just examples of what I hear a lot about here). The main point of his documentary is capturing what makes people make this commitment and why they do it over and over and over again to see the shows that they love. Please PM me for contact info for my friend, as he is working on the finishing touches of his project proposal that he will be pitching on Wednesday morning. He will be finalizing his presentation tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks again!

Just sent a bunch of pics. Included most of the shows you mentioned. I left IF/Then out because I got lottery loser seats for that (AND it SUCKED). I included the Hedwig Playbill with Th Hurt Locker Playbill.

Thank you, brdway411!

Anyone else: my friend is taking testimonial entries to add into his project pitch up until 5pm today… so feel free to message me anytime before that and I'll forward you his contact e-mail.

Make sure to check out the Book of Mormon standing room line. It's always an experience.
