I had no idea who Carly Hughes was. Here is a recent picture. (from BroadwayWorld)
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
So we are crazed about who the new LP is, but also there is Berthe. Who will replace Andrea? I think The Weissler's would hate to have understudies go on.
my friend close to the show just confirmed with me that it's Carly!!! so excited!!! Her last show at Beautiful must be tomorrow and Kyle won't be leaving for a while!
From what I gather, KDM will be with the show "through the holidays" at the least. I'm not sure if that's post-Thanksgiving or post-Christmas, but he's made it clear to the powers that be that he's very happy in the role.
Vocally, I think Carly Hughes will do well. She has a lovely voice--I saw her in Ragtime a day Stephanie Umoh was out. I think we'll see a more mature leading player with. She has this very precise and elegant nature to acting. As for her dancing, with enough time, tears, bio freeze, and a good teacher (and Brad Musgrove the dance captain is a Fosse pro), a dancer with staging training can learn to dance in the style of Fosse. Just takes time, patience, and discipline. That leads to the precision in the dancing.
I'm going to be at Ciara's final show today, and it looks like Charlotte is out. Lara Seibert Young will be Fastrafa today, according to the understudy board. (Just walked past the theater and they put that up sometime in the past half hour.)
Charlotte has been out all week (a vacation I'm guessing). I'm guessing tomorrow we'll have an announcement about Carly and whoever is going to be playing Berthe once Andrea Martin departs.
No special speeches made or anything, but it was very, VERY high energy. Andrea got 3 standing ovations after Berthe's big song, Ciara absolutely killed it tonight, and the rest of the cast was on fire. Lara Seibert Young is a terrific Fastrada. I don't know how old she is, but she definitely appears to be at least a decade younger than Charlotte, which makes for an interesting Charles/Fastrada relationship, and also the Lewis/Fastrada relationship since they look the same age. Very funny though, and a very, very good voice. No announcements were made about it being Ciara's last show, and no announcements about the new LP.
good for DeBose!! I hope Carly's ready by Friday!!
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Charlotte has been out a LOT. I saw the show a month ago and she was out, my friend saw it the next week and she was out, and I saw it again last week and she was out. It may just be a combination of bad luck, vacations, and injuries.
if Charlotte has a lot of other commitments going on, she should just leave the show and let someone else take over the role full-time. She did the same thing in her last few months with A Chorus Line.
