She dances up a tap dancing storm...and then some. A nice trip down memory lane. (She starts tapping at around the 4:38 mark)

1973 Academy Awards Opening Numbers

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Those massive headresses were a trip. I think this is the same Academy Awards where Marlon Brando refused his Academy Award and David Niven encountered a streaker (a craze sweeping the U.S. at the time.) from RC in Austin, Texas

It's so earnest in a way you don't see anymore.

So she is a big enough star to host the Academy Awards...but not a big enough star to play Mame Dennis in the Film?!?

Was she hosting or just in the opening number? At any rate her performance is a hint of what her "Mame" could have been on film. Sad loss.
