"I don't know if this one will work as well onstage... The two biggest elements in it are both dependent on the constant malleability of snow: a wizard/Snowbender who can conjure ice and snow at will, and a living snowman whose body is infinitely flexible in terms of shape and construction.

This isn't like the magic in Beauty and the Beast which comes in small, stage-worthy bursts. In Frozen, it's all magic, all the time, and I worry that trying to focus on the stage worthy parts neglects the fact that the main plot is about an ice wizard, and ice wizards, unlike Enchantresses or Witches, are very hard to do live."

Exactly, that is what I was trying to say earlier in thread and got a response that Digital Projections would be used.

It's coming to Broadway!

...eventually!

Disney develops these projects for a while.

I think anyone that thinks Disney can't pull this off is fooling themselves. Think back to Lion King.

Who would have thought Lion King would succeed on Broadway considering that no characters in the movie were human?

Sven's costume could easily be done similar to the costumes in Lion King.

Olaf could be done, but "stage magic" will be needed. I could also see some of the parts where he is split up three different ways probably won't carry over to the stage to well, and probably be eliminated.

I think the biggest challenge is creating the ice castle and etc. I see the use of digital being used extensively. I think it would be the only way to keep the look and feel of the movie. The visual effects are stunning in the movie, I would hate to lose that on stage.

Not to be confused with Dave19.

It will be in a Nederlander-owned theatre, so the Winter Garden would not be a possibility. Disney exclusively uses Nederlander to house their productions.

While it is way too early to speculate theaters, lol, I would go out and say it would be perfect for either the Lunt or Palace (probably the latter more so).

The Gershwin would be more ideal, but we all know Wicked isn't going anywhere.

Holy crap. I cannot get over the fact that people are already speculating on the venue and director, when it hasn't been written yet.

Oh, come on Liza. Let them have their fun. They are just excited and speculating and playing "what if...." It's all so harmless. Nothing too be overly concerned about. Haven't you ever done that with anything you've been excited about?

It's just amazing to me, Carlos. That's all.

And to answer your question.... Well, I cannot answer it on a public message board. That's all I will say.

I don't think Olaf would be difficult at all. For me, a lot of the great comedic moments were based on his overall personality not his snow balls floating apart, they could easily be cut. However, I do agree that Sven will get cut.

Regarding, Elsa's magic....I think that if they built the stage in a way that things can rise up from the ground and she can look like she's controlling them would be effective. I also picture a ceiling like structure coming down from the fly space. Then I think almost laser type lights could be used to really emphasize the magic and have snow everywhere (obviously). Then also having a false stage for "Let it Go" some sieve-type device so fans can be under the stage cut also emphasize where "magic" is happening.

We are getting SO off-topic but I have to say that I imagined your response in my head before clicking... And it was that. Almost word for word.

Love that we're talking about latino fire in a thread about "Frozen."

Oh, let it melt. People are going to be speculating on theaters to house this nonexistent musical for the next decade. Just watch.

Sven seems like the closest thing to a sidekick that Olaf has, no? I would hope he wouldn't be cut. Some of the best moments are between the two of them.

Calm down, Liza. We're having a little bit of fun. Frozen Headed to Broadway!

I really think they could do Elsa's powers by doing what they did to Lumiere's fire in his costume in Beauty and the Beast. They would have do like transparent gloves to make it look like the powers coming out of her hands.

And Mad, sadly they either have to be really clever with Sven or else he'll be cut like Abu. There's no way they can keep Marshmallow though :/ He would be too big for the theater.

In fact, the theater needs to be huge to fit the ice palace! I can see the palace somehow go through the floor. I have no clue on how they can do Let It Go.

I like that we've proceeded to already demystifying the onstage magic of the unwritten, unstaged, uncast show years in advance. That whole thing about being swept away in the moment was totally overrated anyway...

^^I don't know about years in advance. It took Lion King, B&TB (The first 2 were MAJOR hits), and HoND 3 years each to get on Broadway/Berlin. And I really hope it doesn't take as long as Aladdin and B&TB.

I say we'll get a update around mid-late this year and early-mid 2015.

And again, we're having fun Frozen Headed to Broadway!

I'm really excited about this! I think to make it work, they'll have to adopt some of the Taymor philosophy that works so well with Lion King, that the audience will fill in some of the elements given the basis, that theatre can be less concrete than film.

"I don't know about years in advance. It took Lion King, B&TB (The first 2 were MAJOR hits), and HoND 3 years each to get on Broadway/Berlin."

Hmm, so this may not be years in advance, but your proof is how other shows took a minimum of three years? You only need two years to engage the plural form of the word.

I didn't even see the movie yet, so I'm able to keep my anticipation at bay, I guess. Frozen Headed to Broadway!
