I able to see them, Taz.

Looks very interesting. I'll need to see/hear more- Sheik's post-Spring Awakening output has ranged from mediocre to awful, and this story just doesn't seem like something that sings.

Who is Matt Smith? That's the blandest name ever. and It does look like Ghost on a budget.

How cool would it be if they used that Huey Lewis song?

I know they can't, but it's such an iconic use of a song in a movie.

Count me out. American Psycho is, at heart, snuff porn masquerading as social commentary.

I see it the other way- social commentary masquerading as snuff porn, using an increasingly ludicrous display of violence to comment on the increasingly ludicrous display of wealth and nouveau riche poor taste the characters exhibit. As the violence escalates to an over-the-top, almost humorous level, watch the way the fashions described in the novel escalate at a synchronous rate- by the time Bateman reaches his zenith of madness, the characters are stacking designer on top of designer, throwing all the fashionable items of the day together in ways that would look outrageous, even clownish, save for the fact that it's the price tag and designer name, not the actual appearance, of the fashion that now matters to them.

That's a semi-popular academic view, and one I understand, but disagree with.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about A Clockwork Orange, a more respected literary work that delves just as deeply into rape glorification and torture porn?

I don't know. A Clockwork Orange isn't nearly as graphic as American Psycho.

Not as graphic, but certainly more gleeful in its portrayal of depravity. Bateman is emotionally numb and takes less pleasure in his murder than he does in his Huey Lewis and Phil Collins records, while Alex (discounting the still-controversial alternate ending where he "grows out of being a sociopath" for no apparent reason) is never happier than when he is hurting innocent people.

And it's (Clockwork) much better written than Psycho.

Ellis, despite his early "it" author status, is not a particularly good writer.

The alienation and disassociation his characters display feels like watered down Jay McInerney.

I haven't read A Clockwork Orange in decades, but my memory aligns with Kad's statement that it isn't anywhere near as graphic as American Psycho, a book that struck me as a series of bits of Ellis's usual sophomoric drivel used as linking material between set pieces of "Hostel"-style snuff porn.

I would also never ever ever compare Ellis (who I see as a mediocrity) to Burgess, a truly exceptional thinker and artist.

@Tazber, I read a review on tumblr by a girl who saw it and she said that Hip to Be Square was in the show, along with a few other songs from the time period.

If you think Anthony Burgess is a truly exceptional thinker and artist, try reading Moses, Man of Nazareth, and Kingdom of the Wicked. Worst Biblical trilogy I've ever read.

Is there any artist who hasn't created something someone doesn't like?
