Has anyone heard about Tovah Feldshuh leaving PIPPIN already? She mentions in this interview with Playbill that she's doing GOLDA'S BALCONY at the end of January "immediately following PIPPIN," so her last performance must be coming up soon. She makes a reference to being done with the show next year earlier in the piece as well.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I think she's happier in a "Tovah Feldshuh Presents Tovah Feldshuh starring in a Tovah Feldshuh Production of..." show than a non "Tovah Feldshuh Presents…" show
She's a pro and she's been around the block and can see the writing on the wall. The fans at the stage door last night figured that Patina will leave when her contract is up and the show will be over. Everyone was so sweet and I will treasure feeling Erik arms wrapped around my shoulders.
Writing on the wall? Is it gonna be closing anytime soon?
In terms of replacements, anyone have any guesses for replacements? I remember on a recent Sethtv interview with Jackie Hoffman, she stated something about telling Pippin no because she didn't want to do all the stunts. She could have been joking of course, it's always hard to tell.
Gosh, I hope the writing isn't on the wall just yet. The Weisslers can be pretty resourceful, can't they? This show was the absolute highlight of my recent NY trip and one of the rarer opportunities to see true showmanship of that level. I hope I'll get to see it again in the Spring. I can't think of anyone for Berthe -- you need someone who can believably play a grandmother and do the acrobatics.
As for Patina, even if she does leave at the end of her current contract, I hope that the show can survive. Would love to hear some suggestions for who could replace her. And it better not be Ashlee Simpson.
There are so many African American Actresses who are also very good and too shut it because Patina left would leave me feel unsettled. When there are many actresses that could if given the chance do the role. And Patina is wonderful but I am sure this role could be a great way to give other unknowns the chance to shine.

Patina is not the be all and end all of this show. While I think she is wonderful, I'm sure there are others that can do the show justice. The average ticket buyer has no knowledge of who Patina is.

Well, rumor does have it that Sutton Foster will be returning to Broadway, unknown which show it is at this point, maybe she'll be taking over for Patina Miller...
Though I would actually love to see Samantha Barks make her Broadway debut as the Leading Player. Maybe even Andrea McArdle make a return as Berthe!
You don't rest when you are "young". You work when you are young. You build your reputation. (And what has she to rest from?)

She needs to rest from 5 bway shows in nearly 10 years? And she was through with Anything Goes over 2 years ago.
So again, what does she need to REST from? She might WANT to, but she has never seemed the type.
And again: punctuation is your friend.

Really? Why would Patina's leaving mean anything? She won the Tony (by default) but is hardly a star. I'm sure the Weislers can find a proper replacement, maybe not as talented, but with a starier name. Or not. Even so, it will still survive Patina's leaving.
"Any word on Gabrielle Mcclinton replacing Patina?"
Yes, the word is that she'll continue to replace Patina if Patina is unable to go on at a performance for any reason and then she'll replace whoever is cast as the new Leading Player if/when Patina departs the show if that person is unable to go on for a performance.
and seeing how Patina is not yet (officially) scheduled to depart, there wouldn't be any talk of who her replacement would be.
Doesn't she still have until March before her year is up?

Yes. And she may want to extend if given the chance. I think I remember hearing she wanted to stay in Sister Act. And lolz at Sutton Foster as The Leading Player. And I doubt she would replace at this point in her career anyway.
