Apparently Lionsgate is in the early planning stages of creating a Hunger Games theme park, like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Am I the only one who sees this as a complete ignorance of the themes of this story? In the books, we're horrified at how the Capitol makes the Games into entertainment and preserves past arenas as tourist attractions. And now Lionsgate wants to capitalize on the popularity by making its own theme park? I can't imagine how they could do it without glorifying the violence in the very way the stories criticize.

I get that it isn't "real", as it is within the world of the story, but this still seems to dance along the line of some very nasty irony.

"Am I the only one who sees this as a complete ignorance of the themes of this story?"

Right before the first movie came out, I saw an ad for make up and hair dye to help you get the "Capitol City look". I knew then that the movie was going to miss the point and it did.

I like that JK Rowling has kept control and standards of the Wizarding World theme park, (no Coke products, no high fructose corn syrup, etc. etc.), but I doubt any Hunger Games theme park would have anybody keeping a stern hand on it like that.
It's a little creepy but it would be worse if you knew what you were talking about.

The lines should be relatively short since everyone will be killing each other to get on the rides.

A theme park where you get to feel superior to poor people. Sort of like Dorrian's on the Upper East Side?
It's a little creepy but it would be worse if you knew what you were talking about.

I wish hunting down children at Disneyland was an option.

As well as their parents with double and triple wide strollers.

I didn't mind the first round of makeup tie-ins for the first film. They focused on Effie who was central to the advertising and had that Capital cluelessness the books mock. A few of the tie-in products--Songs from District 12, a really beautiful companion book that actually gave names to all 24 tributes for the first time and identified them with a photo of the actor in the film--weren't bad.

But a theme park? I'm still getting over the subway ad that paid a ton of money to let America know they make their own sriracha sauce to feed future champions. I mean, how clueless can you be?

Is The Hunger Games even going to have a lasting "legacy" like Harry Potter? I don't think it will. I agree that a theme park is an ignorant idea.

I think it will. The movies are critically acclaimed and the books appeal to a wide variety of people. It is on numerous summer reading lists. I'm very intrigued by this project

I think it is a horrible idea. Havn't read the books but was surprised I felt so much emotion for the 2 films. I can imagine an Avatar realm for visitors but this idea creates a whole new 'them/us' situation for amusement--there enough fcuked up kids already through violent video games as it is, why encourage more just for $$$$$ ?

I just think it's hilarious. It would be nice if they could alter the theme and make the parents battle it out in the games instead of the children.

The Schindler's List Theme Park would need other elements. The Playing for Time Barber Shop and Music Hall. Accommodations at Anne Frank's Attic. For the kiddies: Brundibar/Day the Clown Cried Land. And of course to travel between the lands, the Sophie's Choice Cattle Train.
It's a little creepy but it would be worse if you knew what you were talking about.

There is enough plot outside of the games. I'm sure a majority of the park will focus on the districts.

Namo - Don't forget Herr Goeth's Rat Blaster! It's just like being on a real balcony with a sniper rifle! And the little red coat will be available in all sizes throughout the park. After the parade, smoke will pour out of the park's iconic chimney and it will "snow" on all the guests! I can't afford any of the resorts, so I'll be staying at the Latrine Hidey-Holes.

Broadway theme park anyone? We could create a theater district replica of the theater district and have cheesy 45-minute versions of the shows on Broadway where half the cast is played by animatronics!
