Had I not already seen the show, this recording would convince me to do. Its leaps and bounds past the old recording, and the way they split up the girls was perfect, and 'Naughty' with all four of them is a real treat.

I love how when it was announced that they would make a Matilda OBC, people flipped out. Now, everyone is praising it. :P

But, yea! It's fantastic! Can't stop listening to it. There are some new things in the CD that wasn't there in May. But, is it mean or does the music sound fake in some spots? Like the beginning of BRUCE, it sounded like a computer :/ Here's hoping that this beats the less-deserved KINKY BOOTS at the Grammys

Wow. Broadway Records/Yellow Sound did a fantastic job with this OBCR. I have not been impressed with their previous work but this is a wonderful final product. I love it.

Honestly, this captures the energy and feel of this show so well it almost feels like a live album. I can't praise it enough.

Love this OBC recording. It is very well produced and much better than the London version

Loved the take on Telly and Loud. And the bonus Naughty was great. Liked Kinky Boots better as a show but this OBC blows. It away

Matilda really deserved to win best score. I can't get enough of this album.

It sounds great. I liked the London recording, but I like the orchestrations that sound so full. I'm falling big for Chris Hoch's number. His voice impresses me.

We've been lucky this year to have some really great sounding cast recordings released this year. Pippin, Cinderella, and now Matilda have left me very pleased with how productions from this season are being recorded and remembered.

I'm one who was 99% sure that they would not bother with a new recording, due to fairly minimal changes to the score and two of the leads reprising their roles, but boy am I glad that they did. This is a very well done recording, as previously stated it has the energy of a live performance without some of the messiness that can sometimes come about as a result. Congratulations to all involved in it!

Listening to it again, I'm once again baffled as to how Leslie Margherita didn't get a Tony nomination. Her amazing vocals instantly reminded me of how fantastic she is in the role. One of the most underrated performances of last season, in my opinion. I hope we get to see more of her onstage after her time with MATILDA is up.

Slightly obsessed with Taylor Trensch's timing in "Telly" - completely different take from the London production.

Also having seen Bertie early in London and in his final week - it is great to have another recording that more closely represents where his performance evolved.

And finding it hard not to well up listening to the Escapologist Stories. Great inclusion. Although thankfully they cut that song for the Russian in early Stratford previews. Would have brought the evening to a crashing halt.

Also have to echo the comment about diction and clarity. If anything this version has more of it. Perhaps better production values help?

Lovely recording but the Matildas seem a bit pitchy and weak to me compared to the powerhouse Matilda on the London recording. It probably sounds more like it does in the theatre here.

I will beat a dead horse and say that Kinky Boots should not have won the Tony Award for Best Score.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Its a very different performance of Bertie Carvel as Miss. Trunchbull compared to the Stratford recording.

The Russian's song- doesn't he still sing a much shorter version of it, now?

I agree it's a lovely recording. Pippin and this one (I didn't hear Cinderella) re-established a high bar that Kinky Boots lowered with it's - IMHO - poor production.

I also agree that the singing is clearer and it is easier to follow the incredibly dense lyrics. Apart from the great production, I think it might also be down to the cast being able to sing it without the frenetic choreography. Which I love, by the way, but feel sure it gets in the way of vocal clarity and is also a visual distraction.

Is it me or do their accents sound really British for an American cast recording of a British show? I'm thinking of Spamalot, Chaplin and KB as recent examples of "British" shows that don't sound very British to a greater or lesser extent. Not that it necessarily spoils the recording (though it surely does on KB, at least for me) but it is interesting that Matilda seemed to make the effort.

I think I read that the deluxe version was only on Digital download. I'm waiting to hear from a poster who buys the CD to see what is actually there before I buy it for friends. I think the Sergei song is fun but agree that it needed to be cut from the show. It would have killed the momentum that was building towards the end of the show.

Both Matilda and Cinderella were robbed of recognition and merit for their orchestration teams. Stephen Oremus is a great orchestrator, but they just weren't up to par with Danny troops magnificence, or Matilda's wild full sound.

Agreed. Kinky Boots didn't deserved some of the awards. It was either bribed or just plain favoritism. Cinderella should have gotten Best Orchestrations and was totally baffled when KB won that. And this album is an example of why this should have won Best Score.

I actually liked the Sergei song. Another witty song :)

Did anyone manage to get hold of the CD tonight? Concessions told me they're getting it on Tues...Nor could they tell me whether it was going to be Delxue or not. I wanted a physical copy, but no way am I waiting over the weekend. iTunes it is!
