GHOST ON TOUR OPENS TONIGHT AT PROCTORS IN SCHENECTADY

Relive the iconic and magical moments from the Oscar-winning movie Ghost in a brand-new Broadway musical. Ghost The Musical breathes glorious new life into a timeless love story.

The musical features an original pop score from multiple Grammy Award-winners Dave Stewart, one half of the 80s pop duo the Eurythmics, and Glen Ballard, co-writer with Alanis Morissette on the multi-platinum album Jagged Little Pill, among many other notable credits and collaborations. The musical’s tale of everlasting love is thrilling entertainment for audiences of all ages.

Adapted from the hit film by its Academy Award-winning screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin, Ghost The Musical follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam's untimely death. Trapped between two worlds, Sam refuses to leave Molly when he learns she is in grave danger. Desperate to communicate with her, he turns to a storefront psychic who helps him protect Molly and avenge his death.

I'm interested in reading how much troika scaled back the design. I'm predicting a disaster, but hoping for something decent.

Saw the Sunday matinee. I didn't see the Broadway production so I can't compare the two, but as far as the technical aspects go, the show was really quite something. The book/music were serviceable and nothing more. The leads and some of the supporting actors (especially the Subway Ghost) were quite good, with special mention to Steven Douglas as Sam and Carla Stewart as Oda Mae. The ensemble felt out of place and their dancing was downright sloppy at times unfortunately, especially when looking at the shadow cast projections behind them.

The sets moved on and off the stage fluidly. I believe that there were two levels of LED screens though I was in the nosebleed section so I can't say that for certain. One was upstage touching the stage floor itself and could part in the center. The upper one was placed about center stage and was solid across it. There was a scrim that came down near the front of the stage where many projections were placed, including an opening flyover shot of NYC which was rather thrilling. There was a proscenium with about ten lights which could change color and intensity.

The show ran a little under two and a half hours including intermission.

SONG LIST:

ACT I
"Here Right Now" - Sam, Molly
"Unchained Melody" - Sam
"More" - Sam, Carl, Ensemble
"Three Little Words" - Sam, Molly
"You Gotta Let Go" - Hospital Ghosts, Ensemble
"Sam's Lament" - Sam
"Are You a Believer?" - Oda Mae, Clara, Louise
"With You" - Molly
"Suspend My Disbelief/I Had a Life" - Molly, Carl, Sam, Ensemble

ACT II
"Rain/Hold On" - Molly, Sam, Ensemble
"Life Turns on a Dime" - Carl, Molly, Sam
"Focus" - Subway Ghost
"Talkin' 'Bout a Miracle" - Oda Mae, Clara, Louise, Ensemble
"Nothing Stops Another Day" - Molly
"I'm Outta Here" - Oda Mae, Ensemble
"Unchained Melody (Reprise)" - Sam, Molly

I'd be happy to try to answer any other questions.

Does she still wear that god ugly wig just after Sam dies?

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

I don't believe her wig changed at all during the show, but honestly I was paying more attention to the lighting and projections than to the costume choices.

I saw the performance this past Saturday night (this was the 2nd show - there was a matinee that afternoon) The first thing I have to mention was the sound system. I have been attending Broadway shows in NYC, and shows at Proctors for over 30 years and I have never heard such a horrible inaudible mess. In almost every major musical number you were lucky if you caught one word out of every ten. It was so bad I said something to the sound guy at intermission. It appears some of the issues were corrected then if Sunday's performance was better.
I also felt the gratuitous ensemble was very weak, and at times not even needed.

I could understand most of the show perfectly Sunday, though there were moments where the orchestra would overwhelm the voices.

I am very glad to hear that, I am guessing that since it was the start of the tour, and they were still ironing out the kinks, that apparently it was more of an isolated incident. Proctor's is such a beautiful theatre and I have never experieced anything like this before.
In regards to the show itself - - tend to agree with most of your comments Nettik. "Ghost" is surely not a brilliant piece of theatre, but other than the sound issues, it was a pretty decent night of theatre.

Honestly, I expected it to be nearly unwatchable judging by some of the comments on this board during the Broadway run, but while it wasn't Sondheim by any stretch of the imagination, it was certainly not a bad night of theatre. I think it will do well on the road.

Just caught one of the final performances in LA, and wow. Definitely the worst touring show I've ever seen. I feel so bad for the actors, having to trudge through this "musical" nightly. The music, lyrics, and "choreography" are just not good. A good chunk of the audience was already on their way out the theater right as the curtain call began. I thought that for the most part the actors actually did a great job. The material is just an absolute clunker. Anyone else catch the tour recently?

I'm guessing you didn't see "Joseph" at the Pantages prior to this show if you thought this was the worst tour.

I saw it in LA last week and felt bad for the performers. They all deserve better. The set was overbearing and overcomplicated, the projections were pointless and not done well, the choreography was useless, and the ensemble costumes were not good. I thought the performers all did the best they could do with the material, which was not great. I've seen worse (the recent tours of Chicago and Catch Me If You Can come to mind), but it was two hours I wouldn't mind back.

I just got home from the last performance in LA at the Pantages theatre. Second time seeing it there in the 2 week run. The cast is amazing. I'm confused as to why seussical93 is talking on behalf of the audience. Not one person had something bad to say at the stage door, nor around me where I was sitting. The 4 leads are outstanding especially the lady playing Molly. I LOVE the score. The lights are great. Funny at times and sad most. There are some boring parts (ensemble ghosts) scenes.. but thats the show not this touring casts fault. Overall it was a great production. Wouldn't of gone twice otherwise.

The worst production to,play The Pantages is a tie - the recent piece of crap Joseph & The Amazing...(which was still never reviewed by any of the major critics in LA) and the heinous bus and truck of West Side Story.

I didn't see Ghost in LA but did catch it in London and oddly enjoyed it

I actually liked both Joseph and Ghost. I had seen Ghost on Broadway a couple times as well as in London before seeing the tour. I had fun at some parts, but will admit being bored at some other parts (My mother actually fell asleep and i had to wake her up). Carla Stewart and the two actresses playing her sisters were the best part of the show, and the other scenes kinda dragged.
I had fun at Joseph too- i am pretty sure i saw Clay play the part somewhere, but i have NO recollection of it at all (which is really weird) and had saw the movie when i was a kid. So going in, i had no idea what to expect. The sound was my main issue, because you could not hear some things that were being said/sung. Glad i was front row, as it was hard to hear alot, especially during the first 20 minutes. But i had alot of fun.

I loved the tour of Ghost! I was the only one at the stage door after, and the ensemble and leads were so nice! I talked to the guy playing Sam for a few minutes and took a picture with him too. I would have gone back but it was it's second to last show until it left the state. GHOST on Tour opens tonight

I saw it Thursday in L.A. and thought it was terrible. There were people all over the audience laughing (when not in a funny part) at the poor production. I thought the dancing projections were ridiculous and there was no chemistry at all in the main characters. The only saving part for me was the actress who played Oda Mae. She was great, really terrific voice and acting. Almost walked out but my daughter, who hadn't seen the movie, liked it for the most part, so we stayed.

Saw it in LA, hands down the worst show I have ever seen. What a waste of a somewhat decent score. The choreography was horrific, the acting sub par, and the book had so many flaws. Not to mention the over the top technical aspects. I understand it is a tech heavy show but can we at least pair it with a somewhat complete story. The audience laughed (spoiler if you haven't seen the movie) when Sam dies and at the very 'climatic' ending. Ode Mae thank you for saving Act 1 but I was so over you by Act two. Oh and did I mention the choreography... I know I did...HORRIFIC. Don't waste your time.

Anyone see this on tour and Broadway? Curious to see how the tech elements transferred to a non-union budget.

I saw the show on tour, Broadway and London- This Tour is a little different in tech aspects from the show on Broadway- but MUCH better then one would expect for Non-Equity. Things were more changed then scaled down.

I saw the tour when it was in New Orleans last fall-- I agree with the above posters who thought the show itself was terrible. HOWEVER-- I was actually dazzled by the tech/ ghost effects and found them nearly worth the price of admission. That subway car sequence that combined video projection and wire work was thrilling and hypnotic. Each time Sam melted through a solid door I was happily fooled and entertained. If I hadn't had to listen to that dreary score I would have been even more delighted, but we take our entertainment delights where we can find them these days-- so I count GHOST a mixed bag that I'm kind of glad I saw.
