If the Off-Broadway revival had never happened, I would still be fascinated.

That sounds like a wonderful book. I know what i will be buying.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Is this book authorized by the creators? I assume so since it using the Cast Recording artwork as a cover.

"Is this book authorized by the creators?"

I would believe so since the writer, Lawrence D. Cohen, is the one who wrote the book for the show.

I am VERY excited for this. Already pre-ordered the book.

That said, I have already had to prepare myself for them taking no blame for the 1988 incarnation. Which is non-sense. In 1986 they are quoted as saying they wanted "very hip, very MTV style dance numbers." Well, Debbie Allen gave them exactly that. Yet they claim to have thrown their hands up and hated the it. Otherwise, I'm very excited for this book.

I am indeed very curious as to who will get thrown under the bus here. I'm guessing it will be either Terry Hands or Debbie Allen, and Stafford Arima will be the white knight in shining armor.

I hope that it will be released as an e-book as well. I'll be on the road at that point and won't want to lug around a hard back book (even if it will only be a relatively svelte 200 pages).

I'm really looking forward to this too. But they always seem to forget that Terry Hands, though largely at fault, put on stage the words and music THEY WROTE, many of those songs somehow surviving through workshops/readings and a first class world premiere! Though I can't wait for how the conversation of "Think Grease!" turned into "Think Greece!"

@AEA AGMA SM

Not sure if it will make a difference but the link says it is paperback so if no e-book at least it will be lighter. :)

Thanks for that info, Huss. I admit I did not actually check the link.

I'm also curious how much of the book he will spend on each incarnation (since it does also mention the movie in the full title). Anybody have any idea how much the script changed, if at all, when De Palma came on to direct it? Or was De Palma involved from the initial get go?

The script actually changed quite a lot, mostly due to what was technically or financially feasible. It hewed closer to the book originally. (The meteor shower, etc.) Plus I believe that the new "stinger" ending was added after Cohen's draft...

I'm hoping the October 22nd date is the final postponement of the book as it was originally supposed to be published back in May. Some sites show an April 2014 release date...

This is extremely frustrating. Here I was thinking my book would be here in a few days. Why do they keep pushing the release date back? I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever be released at all.
