I soooo wish other shows would have done this. they would not need to refilm the shows, all they would have to use is the show they filmed for the press reels

The b-roll footage used by the media was not filmed during an actual show nor is it an entire show. They only film certain scenes/songs/dance sequences that will best help to sell the show. That's how they can have footage shot by cameras that are on stage without interfering with the audience experience.

B-roll footage IS filmed at an actual performance. However, they do not film the entire show. And the filming isn't too "directed", so the focus on any individual component may or may not be present (same with the archive recording, if any).

I am very excited for this release, well, was excited. I remember enjoying the production value. A few of my favorite artists were involved. On a DVD release from dream works a full scene to Freak Flag was included in the special features. I noticed something odd, being no conductor in the pit. With the new clip from Duloc which will be in the full feature, still no conductor, and sounds awfully perfect. I'm questioning how legitimate this recording is. If it is an overly produced and polished recording synced to pre recorded music or singing, I do not want to waste money. I'd rather see a live capture.

After watching "Freak Flag", I noticed that every bit of the song sounds JUST like the recording, which leads me to believe it actually is. I understand that it is still the original cast and they would sound the same, but they would all have slight differences. It is definitely just performed alongside the track.

Regardless, I am still beyond excited for this to come out.

Slightly off-topic, but I can attest that B-roll footage can be filmed during a performance. I was in the audience the evening the "Leap of Faith" footage was captured.

As for the DVD, I'm excited to see Brian and Daniel's performances. Hopefully I can buy it used in a couple months. :)

Thank god they changed the artwork and it looks much better.

Also, the tracks used as DVD extras on other DVDs are obviously with the OBCR on them and they used the same when they did promos for the show. It probably meant they didn't need to pay the actors more for each DVD sold if it wasn't their live vocals being used.

The Duloc song is much more "Live" than Freak Flag was. You do have to remember the show was filmed at two performances and probably another private show where they went over scenes multiple times for tighter shots for the more polished look. Just like the "Final" performance of Rent.

So, there has been now only a few seconds of an actual performance.

In rent, the capture didn't strike the orchestra. Thats the difference here.

You've seen ONE song that is without the conductor whichay have very well been intentional covering. I still fail to see how it's different than the majority of show filmings. Love Never Dies, Rent, Memphis, Into the Woods, etc.

That's the release date for the digital download.
The production was filmed a total of 3 times, once with special invited audience, once during a regular performance, and finally without audience for on-stage filming. All musical numbers are performed live.

Yep, most shows go for a minimum of three performances filmed.

My only fear is they do not "laugh track" the show... That it is just the audience reactions but canned laughter.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

I don't think it's a guarantee that Netflix will have streaming rights to it starting tomorrow. As of right now Dreamworks only seems to be licensing the streaming rights for their direct-to-DVD specials to Netflix, none of their real releases seem to show up as available.

Ahhh I see. I noticed it was posted a page back and was wondering if the information was correct. Here's hoping as it is a straight-to-DVD release they will have it available. :)
